Project:Offline

If you are more comfortable using an offline editor to do translations in bulk, you can export translations to a .po file on Special:Translate using the action "<translate-task-export-as-po>" from the first dropdown selector. Pick your language from the list and press "Fetch" to download the gettext file. The "Limit" dropdown has no effect for export to gettext.

Note that the .po files exported from translatewiki.net have extra info to support round-tripping correctly, so do not commit them directly back into a source code tree. They should be submitted back through translatewiki.net for merging and normalization. The gettext editor *must* retain the "msgctxt" tags and "X-" header tags to be re-imported. If using POedit, be sure to use version 1.4 or later -- earlier versions will corrupt the .po files.

The user rights for reimporting offline translations can be requested at Project:Translator. The user group you need to be added to is called "offline".
