<strong>Status:</strong> The MediaWiki API is a mature and stable interface that is actively supported and improved. While we try to avoid it, we may occasionally need to make breaking changes; subscribe to [https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/mediawiki-api-announce/ the mediawiki-api-announce mailing list] for notice of updates.

<strong>Erroneous requests:</strong> When erroneous requests are sent to the API, an HTTP header will be sent with the key "MediaWiki-API-Error" and then both the value of the header and the error code sent back will be set to the same value. Cosmos is a skin designed and based off Fandom's Oasis skin. Designed to improve upon their design, and provide an efficient MediaWiki skin for non-Fandom users, or for users transitioning out of Fandom.

The MediaWiki template may have a <code>permission</code> parameter; when it does, an attempt to detect the copyright licence based on the metadata value can be made. GWToolset looks for Creative Commons URLs that match possible copyright licences; e.g., https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ matches the MediaWiki licence template <code>{{tl|Template:Cc-by-sa-3.0}}</code>. If this checkbox is left unchecked, the raw metadata value for each item in the batch upload will be placed in the permission parameter.

Or you can specific a global licence below that will be applied to all items in the batch upload. This value can be a free text value or a MediaWiki template. If this field has a value in it then any metadata value mapped to the permission parameter will be ignored.

After submitting this form, you will receive a token that your application will use to identify itself to MediaWiki. An OAuth administrator will need to approve your application before it can be authorised by other users.

A few recommendations and remarks:
* Try to use as few grants as possible. Avoid grants that are not actually needed now.
* Versions are of the form "major.minor.release" (the last two being optional) and increase as grant changes are needed.
* Please provide a public RSA key (in PEM format) if possible; otherwise a (less secure) secret token will have to be used.
* You can use a project ID to restrict the consumer to a single project on this site (use "*" for all projects).
