Input to MediaWiki should be NFC-normalised UTF-8. MediaWiki may attempt to convert other input, but this may cause some operations (such as [[Special:ApiHelp/edit|edits]] with MD5 checks) to fail.

Parameters that take multiple values are normally submitted with the values separated using the pipe character, e.g. <kbd>param=value1|value2</kbd> or <kbd>param=value1%7Cvalue2</kbd>. If a value must contain the pipe character, use U+001F (Unit Separator) as the separator ''and'' prefix the value with U+001F, e.g. <kbd>param=%1Fvalue1%1Fvalue2</kbd>.

Or you can specific a global licence below that will be applied to all items in the batch upload. This value can be a free text value or a MediaWiki template. If this field has a value in it then any metadata value mapped to the permission parameter will be ignored.

The MediaWiki template may have a <code>permission</code> parameter; when it does, an attempt to detect the copyright licence based on the metadata value can be made. GWToolset looks for Creative Commons URLs that match possible copyright licences; e.g., https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ matches the MediaWiki licence template <code>{{tl|Template:Cc-by-sa-3.0}}</code>. If this checkbox is left unchecked, the raw metadata value for each item in the batch upload will be placed in the permission parameter.
