Hi, I would like to correct MediaWiki:Mainpage/sc from Pàgina Base to Pàgina printzipale, to have the same title in all the projects, but my edit was identfied as harmful. As you can see here the name used on the Sardinian Wikipedia is Pàgina printzipale, and the same one was used for the Wiktionary as well, when it was still published (now it's in the incubator). Maybe I'm wrong (in that case, please let me know), but I think there's no project that has a Main page in Sardinian named "Pàgina Base" right now.

EDIT: I done this https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/mediawiki/core/+/490698/ and after deployment of this patch, everything should be fixed.

According to the comment by Thiemo Kreuz (WMDE) in gerrit it seems we can't change it there and we have to do it here. I've tried contacting an admin, let's see if it's possible to fix it.

I replied to Thiemo and told him about this problem.

Is it possible to disable Apertium WMF for Spanish? I am yet to see any helpful hint or correct translation by that service. I am puzzled by the way this system "translates" all messages (recent examples: Apertium suggested that Phabricator:phabricator-conpherence-e8153b6866c30559/es be translated as "ventana de escondrijo" which makes no sense at all, nor it is remotely approx.). Thanks.

We can no longer force it with "&action=purge" either, it just does nothing. I believe someone managed to force a purge yesterday (I got the "refreshing stats" message when viewing the stats) and since then it neither refreshes nor allows a purge.

I have cherry-picked by untested fix and purged all statistics. Give some time for them to repopulate. Let me know if you see further issues of stats not updating.

Please give concrete examples (groups, languages). I don't have time to start hunting. I did one test translation and the stats updated correctly.

Need to change the case in this string. From Vikidati to Vikidatu. I am not experienced enough in this area and looking through help pages didn't yield an answer. Or are there any changes needed to be made on the wiki (Vikidati).

Why not to translate the Python documentation? Currently, 3 langages are supported.

- the original text to translate is: "# Fetch received by \"%s\", forwarding to cluster host.\n",

- when I use the old editor, and I request to show the differences, the delta is a new line added by the developper (I guess the backslash n in the source text)

- then I add this newline manually (with Return key, one or several times) and submit the translation

- I reopen this message in the old editor -> the newlines are present in the translated text BUT the history of corrections has not registered my modifications (history is still stopped at previous contributor name)

- I decide to use the new Visual Editor; i'm disapointed because there is no diff option there

- the message I see has no new line so there would be nothing to translate (but I know there is one difference)

- should I use the \<br\> ? i dont know.

- moreof that, due to the ignored correction, the message remains presented again and again in loop in translatewiki as if it has never been translated

Questions:

1. why newlines are not accepted in the translated text ?

2. why history is not updated ?

3. why message in loop for translation ?

MediaWiki cannot deal with trailing spaces. The person who is managing Phabricator translations is aware of this and I expect this to be fixed later this year.

There're several messages like this one with a doc page saying "don't translate this message", but it doesn't make sense. Anyway, people keep translating those. Can anyone explain this? Or fix this, if needed?

Many developers are not aware of our optional/ignored system (which they don't have direct access to).

But it won't do any harm if I translate those, will it?

It would do harm if Translate actually used your translations.

It is because some parts of the messages are reused in another place or hardcoded by the developper as they are. In case of mismatch it brings inconsistencies between what is described and what is coded. Of course a concrete example would have given us more informations about the precisely encountered situation. Names of products (Windows...), applications (Diffusion, Differential...) and similar are not translated to keep the consistency of the documentation.
