Translating file options

A thread, Thread:Support/Translating file options, was moved from here to Translating talk:MediaWiki. This move was made by Nemo bis (talk | contribs) on 27 June 2018 at 06:54.

Change of username-2

Same question as the user below, is it possible to rename to Stjn? Thanks in advance.

stjn[ru]14:10, 23 May 2018

Sone. Sorry for the delay. I had to rely on personal memory to confirm that this request is valid and you're not an impostor. :)

Do add new languages in MediaWiki (and eventually Wikipedia), see Translatewiki.net languages.

New filters for 'recent changes'

Hello. where do I find the message group of new filters for recent changes? Also what is the easy way to find any new interface message added to wikipedia?

Gitartha.bordoloi (talk)17:50, 29 May 2018

Confused a little bit

I have been contributing a little bit. I was wondering if a local wikipedia project's wikimedia messages would be localised if I translate the messages from here. -Glacious (talk)

Glacious (talk)05:01, 5 June 2018

I would say, but can you give an example of a such message so that I know what you mean exactly.

Nike (talk)08:36, 5 June 2018

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:

The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Users.

You can view and copy the source of this page.

Return to Thread:Support/Confused a little bit/reply (2).

Yes, wait a day and it should appear in your wiki.

Nike (talk)14:10, 5 June 2018

Did the translation appear over there yet? I don't see it.

Glacious, note that you should translate, not customise. The content of your translation seems very different (there are no per-browser instructions, as far as I can see). If you want to change the message in MediaWiki, you have to propose so to the developers.

Add GENDER support to Moderation log actions

Could you please add GENDER support to log events used by the "Moderation" extension? For example, MediaWiki:Logentry-moderation-reject/en and MediaWiki:Logentry-moderation-block/en.

The documentation says these messages do support GENDER, but the translation interface does not accept it (it says that $2 is an unknown parameter).

Thanks.

Guycn2 · 18:53, 21 June 2018

Will be added on the next update from repository (already fixed there).

Edward Chernenko (talk)00:47, 22 June 2018

Great, thanks!

Request: Enabling Kaqchikel

Sending a request to add the Kaqchikel language. It currently is in the incubator:

https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/cak/Nab%27ey_wuj

and a part of activities leading up to an edit-a-thon will be to begin the translation process:

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Kaqchikel_Wikiwuj,_editathon_and_leadership/capacity_building

There are native Kaqchikel speakers available and willing to participate in this process.

Thank you,

Eddie

We need the following information:

  • A language code from ISO 639-3 or the Ethnologue website (for example 'de')
  • The language name in English and in its own language (for example 'German – Deutsch (de)')
  • Is the language RTL or LTR (written from right to left or left to right)
  • If the language is commonly written in more than one script, please say in which script the language should be enabled. Other variants can be enabled as and when translators for those variants volunteer.
  • Should the language fall back to another language other than English? If so which?
Nike (talk)14:13, 18 May 2018

Thanks for the quick reply! Here is the information requested:

  • A language code from ISO 639-3 or the Ethnologue website (for example 'de’) - CAK
  • The language name in English and in its own language (for example 'German – Deutsch (de)’) - Kaqchikel (in English & auto-denominated)
  • Is the language RTL or LTR (written from right to left or left to right) - Left to Right
  • If the language is commonly written in more than one script, please say in which script the language should be enabled.
  • Other variants can be enabled as and when translators for those variants volunteer. - Latin Script

RisingVoices (talk)16:07, 20 May 2018

Hi again - just following up with this request and asking if you need additional information. Thanks.

RisingVoices (talk)11:32, 15 June 2018

This is now done.

Thank you!

Google cannot search translations in translatewiki

In the past, Google can search translations in translatewiki, but now Google cannot search them, the problem archived here is re-opened. Could you enable Google to search the translations?

Ans (talk)07:43, 29 May 2018

This is not in my control. I do submit sitemaps to Google, but it is up to them if they want to index the pages (lately they don't seem to do it).

Enable Southern Uzbek (uzs) for translation

Edited by another user.
Last edit: 13:34, 7 June 2018

Please add the Southern Uzbek Language (uzs), which is written in the Perso-Arabic letters of the Arabic writing system to the list of translation languages.

KabuliKhan (talk)14:35, 6 June 2018

More informations needed:

  1. Autonym (i.e. how do you call that language in that language?)
  2. Fallback to which language(s)? Or just translate from English?
Liuxinyu970226 (talk)13:39, 7 June 2018

1. Is is called "اوزبیک تورکچه" (Spelled "Uzbek Turkcha" in English) 2. Fallback can be Persian (fa)

KabuliKhan (talk)05:18, 8 June 2018

It looks that this is enabled as uzs-arab.

And it seems to work fine now...

Mainframe98 talk12:31, 8 June 2018

I guess it was just too slow, there isn't anything particular in the server logs.

Words to put the photo on the right and put on the left

I was not helped here. Please tell me where to translate this.

Умар (talk)20:21, 7 June 2018

Because of this problem, we have to write these words in English or Russian.

Hello, could anybody please add a documentation for this message? (and particularly, what does %1$s refer to?) Thanks.

Guycn2 · 22:12, 4 June 2018

Hi Guycn2, requests of this kind should be submitted on Phabricator. You'll need to create an account there. For this one, I have already created T196441.

Hamilton Abreu (talk)09:14, 5 June 2018

OK, thanks.
