Please change Mainpage/sc

Hi, I would like to correct MediaWiki:Mainpage/sc from Pàgina Base to Pàgina printzipale, to have the same title in all the projects, but my edit was identfied as harmful. As you can see here the name used on the Sardinian Wikipedia is Pàgina printzipale, and the same one was used for the Wiktionary as well, when it was still published (now it's in the incubator). Maybe I'm wrong (in that case, please let me know), but I think there's no project that has a Main page in Sardinian named "Pàgina Base" right now.

L2212 (talk)17:40, 28 January 2019

I will do this.

Zoranzoki21 (talk)14:18, 9 February 2019

Hi, thank you for your proposal, but I've seen that the name it's still the same. Did the system block you as well? I'm going to contact an admin about it.

L2212 (talk)15:10, 13 February 2019

System blocks me, and I will make direct change at software.

EDIT: I done this and after deployment of this patch, everything should be fixed.

Zoranzoki21 (talk)20:58, 14 February 2019

According to the comment by Thiemo Kreuz (WMDE) in gerrit it seems we can't change it there and we have to do it here. I've tried contacting an admin, let's see if it's possible to fix it.

L2212 (talk)18:08, 15 February 2019

I replied to Thiemo and told him about this problem.

Automatic WMF Apertium translations for Spanish make absolutely no sense

Is it possible to disable Apertium WMF for Spanish? I am yet to see any helpful hint or correct translation by that service. I am puzzled by the way this system "translates" all messages (recent examples: Apertium suggested that Phabricator:phabricator-conpherence-e8153b6866c30559/es be translated as "ventana de escondrijo" which makes no sense at all, nor it is remotely approx.). Thanks.

New language request for Min Bei Chinese (mnp).

Please add support for the Min Bei Chinese language.

Language name Language code Native language name
Min Bei Chinese mnp Mâing-bă̤-ngṳ̌/閩北語

Please add this language to Special:SupportedLanguages.

Please add Portal:Mnp to Category:Languages, and please let the first line of the page Portal:Mnp show correctly, like this:

mnp: Min Bei Chinese, Mâing-bă̤-ngṳ̌/閩北語

Also, in incubator, please let the babel box of Category:Users:By_language:mnp display correctly.

Change name of gcr language from Kreyol Gwiyanè to Kriyòl Gwiyannen

Hi, I need Help, someone can help me, please ?

Léon973 (talk)19:20, 8 February 2019

Sure, always.

Zoranzoki21 (talk)19:49, 8 February 2019

Can you please change on "" the name of the language "Kreyol Gwiyanè" to "Kriyòl Gwiyannen" ???

"Kreyol Gwiyanè" is the name of the language mixed with French + Creole, NOT the original Creole. In the original creole it's written "Kriyòl Gwiyannen", click on the link you will see.

If you want more sources, ask me for. I can give you the Website_of_an_company_of_preservation_of_Guianan_Creole_(Kriyòl Gwiyannen) and other websites. But please that's gonna do some months that we ask for this changing, please help us !

Léon973 (talk)21:14, 8 February 2019

This can't be done at, but I can change this at MediaWiki software.

roa-tara Translations don't update

In Message Group statistics, some groups are not updated in my language (roa-tara)

If you see this link you can see these groups:

  1. Semantic Compound Queries
  2. Live Translate
  3. Gadgets

where there are no messages to translate but are listed in the view with untranslated messages.

Joe Taras (talk)10:51, 5 February 2019

Newly, the data on Special:LanguageStats are no longer updated

Please have a look.

\m/etalhead 18:06, 27 October 2018

We can no longer force it with "&action=purge" either, it just does nothing. I believe someone managed to force a purge yesterday (I got the "refreshing stats" message when viewing the stats) and since then it neither refreshes nor allows a purge.

Hamilton Abreu (talk)01:12, 28 October 2018

I saw timeouts on our logs, so likely I should move that to the JobQueue.

Anyway, we should hunt down why it's not updating as it should.

Nike (talk)15:09, 29 October 2018

Virtually, we can not see the messages that need to be translated. Does this mean that we must retire temporarily?

ديفيد (talk)09:27, 31 October 2018

Your message sounds impolite. I hope that was not your intention.

Nike (talk)10:43, 31 October 2018

I have cherry-picked by untested fix and purged all statistics. Give some time for them to repopulate. Let me know if you see further issues of stats not updating.

Nike (talk)10:43, 31 October 2018

I do not mean any abuse. I mean it's because we need to update stats automatically. Thanks for responding

ديفيد (talk)10:47, 31 October 2018

The problem returned quickly

ديفيد (talk)06:55, 1 November 2018

Which problem? Can you give a specific example and/or steps to reproduce?

Nike (talk)15:32, 1 November 2018

The stats have not been updating for a few days.

Hamilton Abreu (talk)11:20, 30 November 2018

Please give concrete examples (groups, languages). I don't have time to start hunting. I did one test translation and the stats updated correctly.

About Phabricator:phabricator-diffusion-0f50f5cdbad0a3e2/fr problem that backslash n is ignored in the translations

Hi all

- the original text to translate is: "# Fetch received by \"%s\", forwarding to cluster host.\n",

- when I use the old editor, and I request to show the differences, the delta is a new line added by the developper (I guess the backslash n in the source text)

- then I add this newline manually (with Return key, one or several times) and submit the translation

- I reopen this message in the old editor -> the newlines are present in the translated text BUT the history of corrections has not registered my modifications (history is still stopped at previous contributor name)

- I decide to use the new Visual Editor; i'm disapointed because there is no diff option there

- the message I see has no new line so there would be nothing to translate (but I know there is one difference)

- should I use the \<br\> ? i dont know.

- moreof that, due to the ignored correction, the message remains presented again and again in loop in translatewiki as if it has never been translated

1. why newlines are not accepted in the translated text ?

2. why history is not updated ?

3. why message in loop for translation ?

ChristianW (talk)13:25, 17 January 2019

MediaWiki cannot deal with trailing spaces. The person who is managing Phabricator translations is aware of this and I expect this to be fixed later this year.

Nike (talk)15:45, 23 January 2019

"Don't translate this message"

There're several messages like this one with a doc page saying "don't translate this message", but it doesn't make sense. Anyway, people keep translating those. Can anyone explain this? Or fix this, if needed?

Piramidion (talk)19:27, 10 January 2019

Many developers are not aware of our optional/ignored system (which they don't have direct access to).

Nike (talk)19:35, 15 January 2019

But it won't do any harm if I translate those, will it?

Piramidion (talk)17:28, 16 January 2019

It would do harm if Translate actually used your translations.

Nemo (talk)06:53, 17 January 2019

It is because some parts of the messages are reused in another place or hardcoded by the developper as they are. In case of mismatch it brings inconsistencies between what is described and what is coded. Of course a concrete example would have given us more informations about the precisely encountered situation. Names of products (Windows...), applications (Diffusion, Differential...) and similar are not translated to keep the consistency of the documentation.

External Guidance in MediaWiki

Hi! External Guidance extension needs doc pages to provide context. I don't know what I'm translating.

Do the translation variables on the pages above represent languages?

Block user

Hi, I request that an administrator consider the temporary blocking of User:Navhy. He has been modifying messages in Galician language unnecessarily, causing an increase in revision work (you can review my last undo contributions). The user was already warned several times on his talk page but he has not attended to the reasons given. Bye.
