help when 'Plural' syntax is not accepted

Hi all, concerning following message =>

I think a parameter $1 is missing as for the plurality but it is rejected saying it must be {PLURAL| ...

{{PLURAL:$1|zero=Vous n’avez encore fait aucune rephoto|one=<b>1</b> rephoto|<b>%1$d</b> rephotos}}

I cannot find the correct syntax. I checked it is ok with template => but cannot succeed; help please. Seems as if the original message was wrong (?). Thanks.

ChristianW (talk)12:12, 23 March 2020

As per CLDR data, French has only two plural forms. So the below should be enough,

{{PLURAL|one=<b>1</b> rephoto|<b>%1$d</b> rephotos}}
Abijeet Patro (talk)12:57, 26 March 2020

The source string was just fixed yesterday by Ajapaik developers. The zero version is now a separate message.

Nike (talk)13:03, 26 March 2020

Sounds good now; in french 0 or 1 follow the same way, 2 and over start plural, so according to the number of books on the shelf you say

Il n'y avait aucun livre sur l'étagère.
Il y avait zéro livre sur l'étagère.
Il y avait un livre sur l'étagère.
Il y avait deux livres sur l'étagère.

Thanks; done.

ChristianW (talk)21:04, 26 March 2020

You're lucky in that someone is even willing to listen to you. I've been trying to correct the Portuguese plural for years to no avail, despite the fact that even CLDR agrees with me. The first thing that they usually throw back at you is that you need to convince CLDR. Once you point out that CLDR is already correct and convinced, and agrees with you, and MediaWiki is wrong, they'll push onto you the job of correcting it yourself.

Dear Interface administrator

Please could the line I just parked in MediaWiki_talk:Feedback-terms/fy be copied as the new message text.

Thank you so much!

PiefPafPier (talk)17:27, 27 March 2020

After some change (to the Rails format, I assume) this message started to display an error, saying that "Plural forms should be defined as {{PLURAL|one=…|few=…|many=…|…}}. This translation contains {{PLURAL|zero=…|one=…|few=…|many=…|…}}." (see here). How am I supposed to translate that message now, if the original message contains a |zero= parameter, while the error insists that the translation shouldn't contain it?

Piramidion (talk)13:10, 22 March 2020

I have messages the upstream that zero should be a separate message. You can leave it out for now.

Nike (talk)13:04, 26 March 2020

OK, thanks!

Piramidion (talk)12:29, 27 March 2020

The message lacks indication of the quantity of files allowed (aside from the one being used for PLURAL), and should look like this: You cannot upload more than $1 {{PLURAL:$1|file|files}} at a time. Correct it, please.

Piramidion (talk)13:03, 19 March 2020

Submitted a PR for this change here -

Abijeet Patro (talk)13:11, 26 March 2020

This is fixed.

Request for username change

Could you please change my username for 밝은소년? In addition, please delete my user page first. Thanks.

Tursetic (talk)00:33, 21 March 2020

Context needed

For this message: Wikimedia:Wikiedudashboard-campaign.slug/en

And this one: MediaWiki:Sofa-desc/en. I didn't find any info on that extension elsewhere. Not a single mention on (unless it uses some other name there). "Reporting extension" - reporting what? Like vandalism, or some issues? Or some kind of a status report? Results report? And who is to report: a human user, a bot, or an application? In my language we have different words for those. Please be more precise while creating those English messages (or create /qqq subpages with meaningful explanations), whoever does that. They're giving me a headache.

One more: can someone please tell me why this one (Wikimedia:Wikimedia-grant-review-theme-research/en, "research") is being translated to some languages as "repeat search"?

Another one: MediaWiki:Apihelp-wbcreateclaim-param-tags/en (Change tags to apply to the revision) is being translated as if "change" is a verb, which is incorrect, afaict.

Eduaddad (talk)18:03, 21 March 2019

Just to confirm, you want "Eduardo Addad de Oliveira" to be deleted right?

Bugs on

Hi! I have noticed that Special page Special:SupportedLanguages is not working and front page have wrong fontstyle.

Pyscowicz (talk)10:03, 3 March 2020

Special:SupportedLanguages/it works for me on second attempt (a few minutes after loading it the first time, the results are cached). I don't see anything strange on the main page, a screenshot can be useful. You can upload screenshots at

Translation to Kildin Sami

I would like to start translating to Kildin Sami (ISO 629 code is sjd) as I am currently working on Kildin Sami Wikipedia in Incubator. I would also ask to change its autonym into more appropriate Кӣллт са̄мь кӣлл instead of Кӣллт са̄мь.
Thanks in advance.

Meerrahtar (talk)22:12, 2 March 2020

I think that the part "where you can see the source code of each gadget" should be changed to "where you can see the links to the source code of each gadget". Otherwise it's incorrect: you cannot see the source code neither on the Special:Gadgets page, nor on a gadget's description page.

Piramidion (talk)16:30, 29 February 2020

This message makes no sense: it should be consistent with the two other options, without a need to introduce pronouns we don't normally insert in English. In English, it should probably be "{{USERNAME}} edits wiki pages".

(It's wrong by the way to assume that one registered to a wiki in order to edit wiki pages.)

Nemo (talk)12:42, 27 February 2020

I didn't understand that message either. What is it for, actually? I translated it like "this person edits wiki pages" because we have no gender neutral pronouns in my language.

Piramidion (talk)15:34, 28 February 2020

Translation of Wikimedia Gerrit

Is there going to be translated to Wikimedia Gerrit. It would also be cool. :)

Baran (talk)06:04, 26 February 2020

This message has all content displayed when error triggerred on Commons, even {{PLURAL:$1 and everything. I removed plural option for Serbian translation to temporarily fix it, on MediaWiki:File-exists-duplicate/sr-ec. I do not know if this error is only for sr-ec but I do not believe it is the case so please check and fix English too (and sr-ec if possible to have correct consistent form with en translation). I left singular form in sr-ec because I do not know how could a file be duplicate of several files...

Obsuser (talk)16:52, 23 February 2020

Could you give an example of duplicate files on Commons pls to verify of it is a parsing error or an l10n error. Thanks.

Raymond20:22, 23 February 2020

There are no duplicate files there but when one uploads file(s) and selects image that is already uploaded this message is displayed.

Obsuser (talk)20:54, 23 February 2020

Ok, thank you. A task was already written about this error: Phab:T244406. Please still use the PLURAL in translations.

Raymond21:08, 23 February 2020

OK. Thank you.

Obsuser (talk)00:01, 24 February 2020

Raw HTML code visible

I've noticed that in some translations the apostrophe character is shown as raw HTML code (&#039;) while the translated message only has the ASCII apostrophe.

Is there a procedure for this bug?

PiefPafPier (talk)20:17, 20 February 2020

Delete page

Please erase this page, I want to delete everything related to that name in google. Since I changed my name and that page doesn't make sense:

Iváns (talk)15:44, 16 January 2020

To do this I think we will have to delete the redirection currently setup from to I will check with Niklas on whether this is OK to do and perform this deletion. Please confirm if this is OK with you.

Abijeet Patro (talk)10:29, 17 January 2020

Go ahead, you can do it!

Iváns (talk)13:06, 23 January 2020

It seems like that page is the default template for unavailable talk pages, for eg see:

I don't think there is anything else that we can do here.

Abijeet Patro (talk)04:40, 28 January 2020

I already marked it to erase. It makes no sense a page of a user that no longer exists, now all the information is already passed to my new account. I want to erase every trace on the internet of my old name

Iváns (talk)11:46, 7 February 2020

Its not about no longer existing. If you take this URL - and replace the "ReplaceMe" part with any other string, you will still see the same page. Its a default template that appears for non-existent talk pages, irrespective of whether the user existed before or never existed.
