{{mw-msg|Osm:Potlatch-help-html/121|notext=yes}}

What is what's below ways?

Thanks.

Michawiki21:18, 6 June 2010

Well, litterally: that what lies below the way on the map. Most probably another way.

Siebrand07:49, 7 June 2010

{{mw-msg|Wikimediamobile-desc|notext=yes}}

What is the word support here, a noun or a verb?

Thanks.

Michawiki20:52, 6 June 2010

It adds some functionality to MediaWiki to (better) support Wikimedia Mobile. As far as I know allows automatic redirect to the mobile version based on User Agent.

PLURAL for pt-br

Hello!

I would like to request that we have for pt-br the same that was done in mwr:58790, because we also use the plural form when a parameter is equals to zero: "You has 0 messages" instead of "You has 0 message".

By the way, is it possible to have 3 possible texts as in {{PLURAL:text if 0|text if 1|text if >1}}?

Helder19:01, 16 November 2009

More than two numeric forms are possible. CLDR says that the current config is correct. Please explain what and why precisely.

Siebrand19:20, 16 November 2009

I think that CLDR is not correct, because in pt-br it is used:

  • Você tem 0 mensagens (actually, we would prefer to say "Você não tem mensagens")
  • Você tem 1 mensagem
  • Você tem 2 mensagens (the same for N > 2)
Helder15:27, 17 November 2009

CLDR is a reviewed resource with a formal process. Linux distributions use it as a reliable source. For now, I am not inclined to want to change it in MediaWiki and deviate from CLDR. Please appeal with CLDR. If you *are* correct, that should be clear soon.

Siebrand20:03, 17 November 2009

It doesn't actually say anything about pt-br, just for pt, whatever it means.

Nike08:44, 18 November 2009

Then you please process this request. I said what I thought about it. It's easy enough, and I indicated that I will not take responsibility for doing what was asked.

Messages no longer required

Edited by 2 users.
Last edit: 11:27, 6 June 2010

Hi you all! How could I know automatically if a message is no longer required? I saw for example that MediaWiki:Currentevents-url doen't exist anymore but MediaWiki:Currentevents-url/eo exists yet. Is there a list of deprecated system message or a bot which cleans deprecated messages? Thank you.

09:37, 6 June 2010
How could I know automatically if a message is no longer required?
It will no longer show up as translatable on Special:Translate
Is there a list of deprecated system messages?
No, there isn't, and there is no need for it.
Is there a bot which cleans deprecated messages?
No, there isn't, and there is no need for it.

It think there should be a list of deprecated message in order to keep translatewiki cleaned from unnecessary messages... Anyway, thank you! --→ Airon

10:04, 6 June 2010

This is a recurring subject. Those messages are not in the way, and there is no need to clean them. Please do not take any unilateral action on this non-issue.

Please also fix your horrible and broken signature.

Siebrand11:25, 6 June 2010

The thread extension breaks it. So I have to insert it manually. Is it a bug? → Airon

11:52, 6 June 2010

Could be. You could also make your signature less shouty.

Search index should ignore punctuation

I just wasted some time trying to locate Vector-simplesearch-containing ("containing..."). The text appearing in the search box on hu.wikipedia is tartalmazza… so I figured searching for "tartalmazza" in the MediaWiki namespace would yield the message but apparently it doesn't because the indexer thinks the ellipsis character (U+2026) is part of the word (searching for tartalmazza… works). This can be quite annoying for translators.

Tgr07:53, 6 June 2010

Please, have look at this, regarding the "the the" part.

{{msg-mw|Usercssjsyoucanpreview|notext=yes}}

Should use {{int:Showpreview}} for the button label text. Also, the usage of single quotation marks in English is rather uncommon. Similar happened within Userjsyoucanpreview.

The Evil IP address16:28, 5 June 2010

This is a message only used in MediaWiki 1.15 and possible in earlier versions and no later. It will not be changed.

status or states?

Hi. I just stumbled on this one, and would like it to be checked before I translate it. The name of the page suggests this is about code "status", while the content is "states". Can you correct or confirm the contents?

Mihajlo talk08:38, 5 June 2010

Message contents are correct. See mw:Special:Code/MediaWiki, top bar: "For MediaWiki (recent comments | status changes | my commits | tags | authors | states | release notes)"

I beg you[edit]

Asking for a favor Those translators that were here before in the Chechen section are making enough mistakes in translation and terms. They are also adding or creating words that have no connection with the Chechen language. Literally all of the mistakes have been corrected by me.

Due to their irresponsibility that continues to follow in the near future, I'm asking you to block those unknown admins (as far as I believe they are 4).

One of the admins, whose name is Girdi, is from Island and has no connection to the Chechen language. Special favor to block this admin.

I would like to take the responsibility in the next translations.

Moreover, "namespaceNames" and "magicWords" which were translated by me were not added. Therefore, it's impossible to work with "Category" and "template".

Please take my message into consideration for the future actions. In addition, please try to not allow the other admins to translate and paste words with unacceptable irresponsibility. (Or block those admins from the Chechen section)

I also ask you to allow me to check any of the future translators that would like to translate in the Chechen section in Wikipedia.

I beg you[edit]

Hello! I Admin Chechen section of the wiki Sasan700

Could you help me, a solution problems to the Chechen section of Wikipedia http://ce.wikipedia.org.

  • The fact is that those uneducated administrators ce.wikipedia.org and translatewiki.net did not correct translations of the Chechen section of Wikipedia, they were transferred to another meaning with large errors. I have a problem with translations tekushimi category template and others, to remedy the admitted blunders, main actors in the Chechen section of Wikipedia, but here in http://translatewiki.net I can not add their own translations, I have no rights in that section, prithee help me please...
  • That - that I translated, need as urgent change in the root ( mediawiki/languages/messages/MessagesCe.php ), There, the most important terms like "category", "template", written by himself coined the term, not in the Chechen language! which does not match generally. Maybe they do not Chechens, or did not teach their native language, or did not teach their native language, on request not responding.
  • 2) And this (magicWords) that I translated in accordance with the Chechen language, copy this text on link magicWords and please add the full replacement of the court translatewiki.net magicWords.
  • I beg you, solve this problem, paying attention to my Message.
  • My e-mail: www700www@gmail.com

Yours respectfully Sasan700 --Нохчи Сасан Чечен 19:33, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

{{msg-mw|Purewikideletion-population-done|notext=yes}}

Refer to blanked_page. Looks like technical internal useless for end user. Same issues may exists in other extension messages.

EugeneZelenko14:21, 30 May 2010

If the indended end user is a wiki administrator, it is a correct message. And this is the case...

Siebrand14:49, 30 May 2010

{{msg-mw|cite error no link label group|notext=yes}}

I'm not sure nowiki works like this with a parameter. Usually, all parameters are shown with their raw text, for example <nowiki>{{{1}}}</nowiki> will remain {{{1}}} even when transcluded. It usually requires a {{#tag:nowiki|{{{1}}}}} to transclude a parameter within nowiki tags.

The Evil IP address10:13, 24 May 2010

This is a change made in mwr:66749. Please comment in code review so the developer can look into it.

Siebrand21:37, 26 May 2010

I think it will be good idea to add GENDER support for the word "user" to the following messages, unless technical restrictions make it difficult like in the case of Logouttext:

The latest block log entry is provided below for reference:")

  • Customcssjsprotected ("You do not have permission to edit this page, because it contains another user's personal settings.")

Thanks.

The Evil IP address18:57, 26 May 2010
  • noemail: done in mwr:66933
  • Blockedtitle: I think this message may be incorrect, and may have to be rephrased. It is used in OutputPage::blockedPage(), which has the following documentation: "Produce a "user is blocked" page.". I may be wrong, but not making changes here now.
  • Blocked-notice-logextract: GENDER already supported. Documentation updated.
  • Customcssjsprotected: Because of code structure, adding GENDER support here would be more complex than we would really like. Not changing.
Siebrand21:22, 26 May 2010

{{msg-mw|Filerevert-comment|notext=yes}}

Should be changed to "reason" for consistency with other similar messages and to not make it sound that optional. One should generally always write a reason for why to revert a file.

The Evil IP address19:57, 26 May 2010

{{msg-mw|Logouttext|notext=yes}}

Should use GENDER support, for example it's common in French to use different adjective endings depending on one's gender. Thanks.

The Evil IP address13:08, 26 May 2010

I am a bit unsure if it would be wise to support GENDER because this message is shown after logout. At least the gender of the last user on (semi) public terminals could be revealed.

Raymond13:22, 26 May 2010

Right, I recognize the problem.

Uyghur Interface massages

Hi,

I came here to tell you that the interface of Uyghur Wikipedia is still in Uyghur latin. Could you please switch it to Uyghur Arabic because the majority of Uyghurs prefer using it instead.

Thanks.

Jose7702:29, 2 March 2010

Both versions do not have their "most wanted" messages done but the Arabic version is the one best developed.

GerardM05:53, 2 March 2010

I would propose that we make the change if there is substantial effort in localising it (in either of the localisations). For now about 30% of MediaWiki has been localised in the Arabic script, and 5% in the Latin script. Neither localisation has had any contributions in the past 200 days. Please help us address that first, Jose.

Siebrand11:13, 2 March 2010

There have been substantial effort in localising the Uyghur arabic interface messages, especially during the period from May 16 - 22, as could be seen here. This means that only 32 (1.3%) out of 2421 messages need to be localised.

Is there also a requirement that the Uyghur Latin version also needs to be localised before Uyghur Wikipedia interface is switched to the Uyghur Arabic script?

Jose7704:39, 26 May 2010

Done Done mwr:66912. Might take a while for Wikimedia to update this, unless you request an update of MessagesUg.php in bugzilla:.

{{msg-mw|Prefswitch-main-anon|notext=yes}}

"Take Me Back" should be changed to "Take me back" because of the proper capitalization and for consistency with Prefswitch-main-on. Thanks.

Maintenance

Converted a few tables from MyISAM to InnoDB. Took a while for some tables, causing the wiki basically to be read-only, and lighttpd to serve some '500' errors.

ALTER TABLE `bw_text` ENGINE = InnoDB; 5 min 45.90 sec */
ALTER TABLE `bw_archive` ENGINE = InnoDB; 54.54 sec */
ALTER TABLE `bw_logging` ENGINE = InnoDB; 1 min 22.49 sec */
ALTER TABLE `bw_watchlist` ENGINE = InnoDB; 21 min 48.14 sec */
ALTER TABLE `bw_templatelinks` ENGINE = InnoDB; 4.37 sec */
ALTER TABLE `bw_pagelinks` ENGINE = InnoDB; 25.69 sec */
ALTER TABLE `bw_categorylinks` ENGINE = InnoDB; 0.91 sec */
ALTER TABLE `bw_externallinks` ENGINE = InnoDB; 12.14 sec */
ALTER TABLE `bw_imagelinks` ENGINE = InnoDB; 0.28 sec */
ALTER TABLE `bw_revision` ENGINE = InnoDB; 1 hour 44 min 57.29 sec */

Two tables to go, will try and find a faster solution for those...

ALTER TABLE `bw_page` ENGINE = InnoDB; /* 1 hour 10 min 33.22 sec on test db */
ALTER TABLE `bw_recentchanges` ENGINE = InnoDB; /* 54 min 50.80 sec on test db */
