regarding namespaces words

I need to translate the words (namespaces) like wikinews, wiktionary, and in ta.wikinews i want to translate portal etc. Where can i get these words?

Please help me. This is for Tamil wikis

Thanks Mohamed Mahir

These are Wikimedia specific configurations. You should create entries in bugzilla:; one for each project that you would like reconfigured, and with a reference to consensus on the project you are requesting the change(s) for - a poll or a vote, depending on the project policy.

{{msg-mw|Sponsor-price-45yr|notext=1}} and {{msg-mw|Sponsor-price-5mo|notext=1}}

Edited by another user.
Last edit: 10:54, 4 August 2010

In both messages when you translate "$45" as "45 dollars" and "$5" as "5 dollars", the error system returns an error of missing parameters:

  • Missing parameter $4 in 1st,
  • Missing parameter $5 in 2nd.

Could you fix them, please? Thanks!

Siebrand16:24, 5 August 2010

Thanks for your fix, but there's still an error because you have corrected a message called "sponsor-price-5m" instead of "sponsor-price-5mo". So there is no effect on the correct message.

Right. The infamous typo. mwr:70548

Of all warnings, errors and fatal errors in this message group, this is the only one that states "WARNING" in uppercase. It should stop trying to be special and just say "Warning", like all its friends do.

Interesting way of reporting. Thanks for giving me a laugh.

Missing phrases of Help_us

Edited by another user.
Last edit: 21:15, 5 August 2010

Hi, on this page are 2 phrases that I can't find in any group of LanguageStats. The page is the link target of "We are looking for help" link of the Main page. Shouldn't they be translated?

Michawiki21:14, 5 August 2010

You not finding them is correct. This page needs updating and formatting before we will mark it as translatable.

Siebrand21:16, 5 August 2010

"You have new messages" link target not working.

Currently, each time when loggin in, I see the "You have new messages" box. Klicking the link in it tries to open the page , which does not display anything, it is completely blank, but loads for a pretty long time. Going to my talk page does work, but that is of course another page, and it does not have new messages all the time.

Purodha Blissenbach16:18, 5 August 2010

Known issue; Jhs suffers from the same issue. Reported to Andrew, but it looks like there's not bugzilla: rpeort yet.

Nike18:53, 5 August 2010

Right. I missed that because I had case-sensitive search enabled in Firefox... :) Thanks for pointing it out.

Siebrand20:41, 5 August 2010

Where is the link to the Main page in the sidebar?

I cannot find the link to the Main page in the sidebar anymore. What is happened?

Michawiki12:51, 5 August 2010

Sorry, I was testing our new look. It will become redundant if we switch.

Nike13:30, 5 August 2010

A new look? Why the link to the main page will be redundant then? And what will be instead of it?

Michawiki14:17, 5 August 2010

Ah, it seems you mean the new logo, don't you? I have just noticed that the logo is a link to the main page. But, honestly said, I'd prefer a visible link.

Michawiki14:20, 5 August 2010

Can't keep everything there :)

Nike15:30, 5 August 2010

I think the term "deletion" would fit better here than "removal", since pretty much everywhere in the interface this action is called "deleting", reducing possible confusion with different terms.

iHRIS is now a supported project

I have added iHRIS to the Projects template, the text for a project is translated. Can someone please do the appropriate work for me ? Thanks,

Could it just say "at most N". I also wonder why there are parenthesis in this message and the one displayed above in Special:Prefernces

Hello, I am an administater Uyghur Wikipedia. on My preferences hava Internationalisation-Language, about Uyghur language have three Choice Ug-Uyghurche, Ug-Arab, Ug-Latn. Ug-Uyghurche was old Uyghur Wkipedia version, so it must removed. i don't know talk to anybody. What shall I do? please help me. Thanks!!!

Aturantekin14:26, 4 August 2010

I have read your question, but I do not know what it is you would like to get accomplished. Can you please try to rephrase or clarify your question?

Some background information: According to Ethnologue, Uyghur can be written in Arabic, Latin and Cyrillic script, depending on where the language is written; Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Turkey respectively.

MediaWiki currently supports two script variants, Arabic script (ug-arab) and Latin script (ug-latn) for the user interface localisation. If someone selects 'ug' as language, this will fall back to the Arabic script variant.

Backlinks from "translation memory" - praise the developers!

Thank you! I am so happy to have clickeable backlinks from the suggested translations now. It is a real time saver, because there were and are quite many occasions lending themselve to more closely inspecting one or another original message of the suggestions, or amending them to increase consistency.

Purodha Blissenbach07:44, 4 August 2010

Glad you like it. So do we. You may also be looking forward to the feature "Show untranslated messages with suggestions".

Siebrand09:28, 4 August 2010

Translate the translate buttons.

I can see Save and open next/ Skip to next buttons everyday. though every translator here can read that English, I still want to translate it into Chinese or other language. I can't find place to translate it, maybe it's because it'a a part of the site's basic interface. Is there any way to translate it? that's a small but important nicety.

Chenxiaoqino14:28, 28 July 2010

Is your interface in Chinese? Because I always see them in German.

The Evil IP address15:48, 28 July 2010

Go to the 'translate' meta-group in the translation tool. These messages are there.

Lloffiwr16:40, 28 July 2010

I've translated those message and now I can see buttons in Chinese now. Thanks!

Message "Call"

In the message Call ("Call") is "Call" a noun or a verb? If a noun does it refer to "a call" or "the call".

Lloffiwr18:11, 1 August 2010

It is a noun, used as the title of the special page.

Raymond05:53, 2 August 2010

Done Done - documented, with thanks.

Lloffiwr22:37, 2 August 2010

Typo: "in then run" sould be "and then run".

Hamilton Abreu19:44, 2 August 2010

(This is the second issue reported at Thread:Support/MediaWiki:Semiprotectedpagemovewarning, MediaWiki:Protectedpagemovewarning originally.)

Incorrect expression. Not all "registered" users are autoconfirmed (in the semi one).

Liangent08:35, 2 August 2010

I think for the sake of simplicity this should not be changed.

Siebrand09:47, 2 August 2010
  • Inconsistency. Some messages say a page is "protected" and some others say "locked".
  • Incorrect expression. Not all "registered" users are autoconfirmed (in the semi one).
Liangent07:58, 2 August 2010

Done Done I've fixed the first issue in all core messages I found it in in mwr:70325. Also fixed another inconsistency I spotted. If there is another matter you want to address, please do so in a separate topic. Thanks.

Siebrand08:17, 2 August 2010

message Ajaxlogin-desc

I think that 'allow' should be 'allows' in Ajaxlogin-desc ("Dynamic box which allows users to login and retrieve forgotten passwords via e-mail"). Also, the end of the sentence says 'and remind password'. You usually remind a person; reminding a thing doesn't usually achieve much.:) Should this be 'and request a new password'?
