Creating localisation for Mozilla Firefox for lb

I am interested in participating in the localisation of Mozilla Firefox in lb. Unfortunately I'm not aware of whether lb is among the languages available for this. I registered myself on the team for Firefox since December 2010 but unfortunately there is absolutely no visible activity there. I've not really found out the internal procedure within de Mozilla foundation in order to push a new localisation (especially as I do not have all the necessary technical knowledge to start such a projet).

Due to the translating experience I made here on translatewiki I guess I will be able to realise such a project if I just get the technical support as well as some logistical support concerning the communication with the Mozilla Firefox localisation coordinators from the translatewiki-staff.

with my very best regards --Robby (talk) 15:07, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi Robby,

Thanks a lot of your interest.

Mozilla is a very large and complicated project. Its translation is currently enabled only for Gujarati and Hebrew. We really hope that after some experimentation with these two languages we'll enable it for more languages. I added your name and your language to the list of interested potential Mozilla translators.

Why Upload file does not allow me to upload any file ?

When I try to upload any permitted file type such as a png or jpg I get an error message that I do not have the permission to upload to File ! Why? ...a nd how can I upload image files at this site?

Bci21 (talk)08:02, 22 June 2012

Why would you like to upload a file?

As French is a fallback language for Walloon, I get on tha allmessages page for Walloon references to MediaWiki:Hiderevision/fr, but that message seems obsolete (it is missing in English).

Should it be removed ?

thanks

Stale pages should remain. They don't come up in any of the worksflows, if all works well.

Recent changes messages

When I look at Recentchangestext ("-") translations, it seems obviously incorrect: The English original is set to “-” (i.e. unused, empty), but the (older) translations still use the text which now resides at Recentchanges-summary ("Track the most recent changes to the wiki on this page.").

The problem is that on 2011-04-16, r86186 moved the message from Recentchangestext to Recentchanges-summary, which was quite correctly processed by Raymond who “moved MediaWiki:Recentchangestext/xx to MediaWiki:Recentchanges-summary/xx: Text replace - "Recentchangestext" to "Recentchanges-summary"”). However, on 2011-04-18, FuzzyBot recreated all those Recentchangestext translations, because “Importing a new translation”. I believe the correct solution would be to remove all those translations from the translation source files, and mark the message as optional. (For now, I changed at least MediaWiki:Recentchangestext/cs to “-”.)

There is no problem. Don't worry about it.

Siebrand10:06, 30 May 2012

How come? If you have a clean MediaWiki install with a non-English content language, the RC page is going to start with a duplicated message (one from Recentchanges-summary (in your UI language), the other from Recentchangestext (always in content language, this one should not be there)). See e.g. wikiquote:be:Special:RecentChanges.

Mormegil (talk)11:02, 30 May 2012

Can you show me such an out of the box installation?

Really, don't worry about it.

Siebrand11:04, 30 May 2012

E? I don’t get it. Belarussian Wikiquote is an example of a real working MediaWiki installation suffering from this bug.

I don’t have to worry about this since I have fixed the Czech translation. I just thought somebody might care about the other languages. But OK, I’ll take that as someone else’s problem.

Mormegil (talk)11:29, 30 May 2012

Then it's not a localisation issue, but a code issue. The code I saw meant to prevent this.

There is a hard coded "30" in the message. I believe that this could be taken fom a $wg... variable.

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)20:25, 4 June 2012

Wikitext doesn't provide way to do that.

Nike (talk)20:37, 13 June 2012

Yes, that would need a code change. Does any one happen to know the variable name?
