Adding Miraheze

Hello. I am a system administrator at https://miraheze.org (a free wiki hosting service). I'd like to request that three GitHub repos from (https://github.com/miraheze) get added to translatewiki.net so that users can translate easier, without having to edit raw JSON files.

Reception123 (talk)10:33, 1 May 2017

We are not sure yet, especially about having enough strings to qualify for translatewiki.net

Reception123 (talk)10:50, 1 May 2017

That's possible, but which repositories are you talking about? Just for information, what's the reason they're not hosted in gerrit? (Maybe because they're forks, judging from the descriptions.)

I found [1] and [2] but you need to add the corresponding qqq.json for message documentation. Please also add @translatewiki as user with push access on all repositories you want to add. Let us know when you've done both.

Besides, while you write message documentation you may want to check whether you respect mw:Localisation advice, including for Plural and Gender. For instance I see a message group-confirmed-member without GENDER, which may be expected.

Nemo (talk)10:55, 1 May 2017

Hello, I am currently collaborating and I am working on the Spanish translations and other languages of the messages of that wiki that are currently processed in the MirahezeMagic extension, I am going to add GENDER to the Spanish translations. I am available for what is needed in this area. Regards.

Alvaro Molina ( - )21:08, 1 May 2017

I have already arranged the GENDER theme in "member" translations. If anything is needed, please let us know. The translations that came by default in the version of MediaWiki in Miraheze are defective in some cases and mostly I can not translate them all to GitHub nor can they be merged. I hope to welcome this request. Regards.

Alvaro Molina ( - )05:44, 18 May 2017

Sounds like we enabled CreateWiki here, as it's the core extension of Miraheze, close this thread as successful?

How to replace wrongly translated spelling of a word appearing in language list for language code anp

It is observed that Angika translation of Angika (Code - anp) is being shown in the language list as अङ्गिका . The same should be written as अंगिका .

I am not getting the right link as to where the spelling can be corrected.

Show me the method to replace wrongly translated spelling of a word appearing in language list. Else change the same from अङ्गिका to अंगिका .

Angpradesh (talk)03:12, 1 November 2017

Have you already searched the word in Special:SearchTranslations?

Nemo (talk)07:43, 1 November 2017

Yes, I have searched the word, अङ्गिका and the same was not found in search results.

All local MediaWiki messages of Gothic need to be removed

An administrator needs to do this, I didn't want to become one again, so I van't remove them.

https://got.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AAllMessages&prefix=&filter=modified&lang=got&limit=500

These all need to be removed. It is interfering with all the translations I did in Translatewiki and the results don't show up because it is wrong here.

Gothicspeaker (talk)02:35, 30 September 2017

Currently Bokareis is an administrator, is that you, if yes then you re-have that right, maybe you don't know the script to do it?

Puuttuvia käännöksiä iNaturalist.org -sivustolla

Hei.

Which term including "sandbox" on translatewiki.net cause big trouble in jawiki UI ? My translation into サンドボックス was reverted.

My reverted translation has caused quite a trouble among jawiki users; they had claimed that their sandoxes had been deleted or disappeared without any prior notice. To date, measures are taken and claiming editors are happy to see the trouble is solved. I felt discouraged to find a note reporting the situation on my userpage, however, I find it a great chance to learn something actually.
My question: Is there anything left to solve the problem? Is there any FAQ which suggest me to consider before translating any essential strings like in this case? How can I tell some translation sources are closely related to UI on, say, jawiki?

  • History: The actual problem on jawiki seems to be solved (not sure). There were claims at two pages, and the process how they found the way around is documented.
Omotecho (talk)10:31, 6 January 2018

Nothing more needs to be done to resolve this issue.

The message documentation does have a note now: Changing this message in established languages will break links!

Nike (talk)08:56, 8 January 2018

I see, and yes, I’ve been avoiding to change message to prevent broken links. So technically when jawiki users find inconvenient change in UI caused by translation.net, they will discuss and repeat the measure they applied this time. Am I right? In that case, is anybody aware of similar cases in other languages? Will it involve coordinating tasks among projects involved to upgrade the situation, or a Community Wishlist item for 2018?

Si au lieu de FRANCAIS on selectionne DEUTSCH (par exemple) dans la liste vide des items à relire, alors une liste de message à relire en allemant apparait bien. Il y a donc bien un problème avec la relecture MediaWiki/Fr.

Wikimania scholarship form translations

I noticed the Wikimania 2018 scholarship application form is still set to 2017 for many translations. For example for Dutch, it was updated to 2018 on 20 December, but as of right now the application form still shows the old version. Could this be synced please? The form is being used right now, with 22 January as registration deadline. I am also writing this on Wikimania2018wiki. Thanks.

SPQRobin (talk)16:27, 1 January 2018

I am exporting two times a week. For example that translation was exported on December 21th:

2226e832 (Translation updater bot 2017-12-21 08:53:05 +0100 20) "wikimania-location-year": "Kaapstad, Zuid-Afrika, 2018",

I don't know how translations from git are synced to the website.

Nike (talk)12:58, 3 January 2018

Move the error messages below the textbox?

Is there a reason why the error messages are displayed above the textbox, making the textbox annoyingly bob up and down whenever I'm too slow typing out variables or correcting errors. This has been bugging me for a long time and I find it strange that this hasn't been fixed by now.

// WikiPhoenix Talk23:12, 24 December 2017

It is the way it was designed, but I don't have any more insight into that. If you want you can file a task in Phabricator to change it and a designer may comment there.

Nike (talk)13:25, 29 December 2017

I'll do that. Thanks!

Filter out API messages?

There are soooo many API-specific messages, and they will only be read by a tiiiiiny fraction of the people who use MediaWiki. I'd like to focus on translating anything else, but as far as I know there's no way to do that. Would it be possible to implement something to filter them out from Special:Translate (and the stats at Special:LanguageStats)?

Jon Harald Søby (talk)12:14, 15 September 2017

I second that.

Macofe (talk)23:01, 17 September 2017

The same with the localized Wikimedia project names and other big projects. I would prefer a message prefix or message group filtering.

greek text in french translations

Hi all

I have been very surprised to fin GREEK text to reread while I currently review only french items.

French RereadCommand https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Special:Translate?action=proofread&group=%21recent&language=fr&filter=translated%7C%21reviewer%3A15345%7C%21last-translator%3A15345

First item displayed this morning: Phabricator:phabricator-slowvote-a2b408e5686fc3a1/fr

English original text: $1 changed who can see the responses of $2.

French text to validate: $1 άλλαξε αυτόν που μπορεί να δει τις απαντήσεις του $2.

!!! surprising isnt it ?

Other similar found: Phabricator:phabricator-uiexample-5c84c4e1000190f0/fr Phabricator:phabricator-uiexample-ebeb7d81d884ff47/fr ... example https://translatewiki.net/w

Christian (talk)13:58, 16 December 2017
Liuxinyu970226 (talk)14:12, 16 December 2017

Now the items are tagged "redirected"

Example: Phabricator:phabricator-uiexample-ebeb7d81d884ff47/fr shows text

  1. REDIRECT Phabricator:phabricator-uiexample-ebeb7d81d884ff47/el

If I see this text, that means for rereaders , the redirection has not worked .

So what must I do now ???? Do i keep this Redirection information untouched ? or do I translate the english text in french ignoring the redirection text ?

Christian (talk)11:41, 17 December 2017

Yes please replace the bad translations with proper French translation.

Nike (talk)11:52, 17 December 2017

ok -thanks.

Christian (talk)12:04, 17 December 2017

Help! I have just written "to be translated" because nobody has translated the remaining REDIRECTED items. Now I see that the corresponding items are no longer proposed for rereading but hold this default text. How can these items be put in the list "for translation in french" again ? ex: Phabricator:phabricator-uiexample-eaf3829baf48c395/fr

Christian (talk)20:47, 19 December 2017

OK good - I succeeded to revert the updates using the corresponding History of my contribution list. Subject is closed.
