Translating offline

Please see Translating:Developer log for a formal log of export and commit activities from translatewiki.net. Please note that changes will not appear in projects or instances you are instantly, rather they can be delayed anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks, or you may have to install a new release of the software.

Commit requests

When requesting a commit, we will commit all changes to your language. Please be patient. Commits will be done at least every few days. Please only start bugging developers if no commits were made three days after requesting a commit and no explanation was given. Please insert:

* {{PleaseCommit|lang}} ~~~~ or * {{PleaseCommit|lang|comment}} ~~~~

Open Issues

Interlingua "regional" settings

There are a few settings for number and date notation that need to be defined for Interlingua (ia). I've read Translating:Regional_settings but the documentation on how I could do it myself isn't there. So, if possible, please:

  • change the thousands separator from a comma to a non-breaking space (&nbsp;);
  • change the decimal separator from a period to a comma;
  • in the long D-M-Y date format, insert the word "de" (of) before the month -- example: "26 de julio 2008". (This is often preceded by the definite article ["le 26 de julio 2008"] but that is usually part of the messages themselves and so shouldn't be part of the date format.)

Thanks – McDutchie 18:17, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Messages needing attention

MediaWiki core

The following messages will be changed and fuzzied after MediaWiki 1.13 release:

Save it to your computer and upload it here."): properly link export special page

  • uploadtext ("Use the form below to upload files.

To view or search previously uploaded files go to the list of uploaded files, (re)uploads are also logged in the upload log, deletions in the deletion log.

To include a file in a page, use a link in one of the following forms:

  • [[File:File.jpg]] to use the full version of the file
  • [[File:File.png|200px|thumb|left|alt text]] to use a 200 pixel wide rendition in a box in the left margin with "alt text" as description
  • [[Media:File.ogg]] for directly linking to the file without displaying the file"): wrap the example code in <tt> to make it stand out
  • math_MissingOpenBraceBefore ("⧼math_MissingOpenBraceBefore⧽"): awkward formatting. Look into changing this
  • smw_badqueryatom ("Some part "[[...]]" of the query was not understood."): awkward formatting. Look into changing this
  • removedwatchtext (""$1" and its discussion page have been removed from your watchlist."): add link to watchlist (see 'km')
  • welcomecreation ("== Welcome, $1! ==

Your account has been created. Please read the welcome message on your talk page and do not forget to change your translatewiki.net preferences; most important is probably setting your language of choice."): add link to Special:Preferences

  • missing-article ("The database did not find the text of a page that it should have found, named "$1" $2.

This is usually caused by following an outdated diff or history link to a page that has been deleted.

If this is not the case, you may have found a bug in the software. Please report this to an administrator, making note of the URL."): add link to {{MediaWiki:Grouppage-sysop}} for administrators. Possibly also to user list.

You might have been logged out. Please verify that you're still logged in and try again. If it still does not work, try logging out and logging back in, and check that your browser allows cookies from this site."): add link to Special:Userlogout (see 'ksh')

Because translatewiki.net has raw HTML enabled, the preview is hidden as a precaution against JavaScript attacks.

If this is a legitimate edit attempt, please try again. If it still does not work, try logging out and logging back in, and check that your browser allows cookies from this site."): add link to Special:Userlogout (see 'ksh')

someone else has edited or rolled back the page already.

The last edit to the page was by $3 (talk | contribs)."): consider adding links to Special:Contributions

You may now log in and enjoy the wiki."): add link to Special:Userlogin

Note that some pages may continue to be displayed as if you were still logged in, until you clear your browser cache."): add link to Special:Userlogin

  • undo-summary ("Undo revision $1 by $2 (talk)"): consider adding link to Special:Contributions (see 'la')
  • uploadlogpagetext ("Below is a list of the most recent file uploads.

See the gallery of new files for a more visual overview."): add link to Special:Newimages

It may have been deleted from the wiki, or renamed. Try searching on the wiki for relevant new pages."): look into this page in Wikipedias for ideas. Need to give user more 'outs'

  • searchsubtitle ("⧼searchsubtitle⧽"): consider adding a link to Special:Allpages/$1
  • listgrouprights-summary ("The following is a list of user groups defined on this wiki, with their associated access rights.

There may be additional information about individual rights."): add a link description for {{MediaWiki:Listgrouprights-helppage}}

  • movepagetext ("Using the form below will rename a page, moving all of its history to the new name.

The old title will become a redirect page to the new title. You can update redirects that point to the original title automatically. If you choose not to, be sure to check for double or broken redirects. You are responsible for making sure that links continue to point where they are supposed to go.

Note that the page will not be moved if there is already a page at the new title, unless the latter is a redirect and has no past edit history. This means that you can rename a page back to where it was renamed from if you make a mistake, and you cannot overwrite an existing page.

Note: This can be a drastic and unexpected change for a popular page; please be sure you understand the consequences of this before proceeding."): consider linking to Special:DoubleRedirects and Special:BrokenRedirects (may also confise, as it may be out of context)

This is the discussion page for an anonymous user who has not created an account yet, or who does not use it. We therefore have to use the numerical IP address to identify him/her. Such an IP address can be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user and feel that irrelevant comments have been directed at you, please create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users."): add a link to Special:Userlogin/signup too? (see 'nl')

  • emailpagetext ("You can use the form below to send an email message to this user.

The email address you entered in your user preferences will appear as the "From" address of the email, so the recipient will be able to reply directly to you."): add link to Special:Preferences (see 'pap')

  • uploadnologin ("Not logged in"): add link to Special:Userlogin
  • whitelistedittitle ("⧼whitelistedittitle⧽"): add link to Special:Userlogin (see 'rmy')

MediaWiki extensions

The following messages will be changed and fuzzied after MediaWiki 1.13 release:

These gadgets are mostly based on JavaScript, so JavaScript has to be enabled in your browser for them to work. Note that these gadgets will have no effect on this preferences page.

Also note that these special gadgets are not part of the MediaWiki software, and are usually developed and maintained by users on your local wiki. Local administrators can edit the definitions and descriptions of available gadgets. The numbers of users for each gadget on this wiki is listed at Gadget usage statistics."): add link description (twice)

This overview provides easy access to the system message pages that define each gadget's description and code."): add link description, add link to preferences
