Please open Blockly item for Chinese translation

the Blockly project can be visited on https://developers.google.cn/blockly/ in China.

Yiwei (talk)05:21, 12 February 2017

Hey, but that's already available, although there's a problem that about Blockly:PROCEDURES_CALLRETURN_HELPURL/zh-hans which cannot be safely updated.

Liuxinyu970226 (talk)13:02, 12 February 2017

Probably somebody (usually Siebrand) should ask them kindly to actually put the translations in use?

Nemo (talk)13:57, 20 May 2017

What is this message for? The page behind the URL does not seem to have language version, so what am I expected to do with it?

Basetalkcontributions00:18, 5 June 2016

This message can be optional.

Beta16 (talk)07:56, 11 May 2016

This URL makes me confusing due to so-called "Following parameters are not used: %2", where Procedure (computer science) is redirected to Subroutine, could we change it to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subroutine ?

Liuxinyu970226 (talk)02:17, 16 December 2016

In Japanese, "If x" is translated in Scratch as "もし x なら". Current translation in Blockly is "もし x", which is grammatically incomplete in Japanese. I wonder how it is possible to change it to "もし x なら" in Blockly. It may be necessary to change the segmentation of the line.

There are many other instances like this in Japanese. "If" clause above is an example, and there are many others with postposition, which is used often in Japanese. For example, "In a box" is translated as "箱の中に" which is like "A box in" as its word order. Therefore, it is advisable for the administrator or editor of Blockly translation to modify the way of segmentation (utilizing variables) so that word order can be reversed or flexible and these problems are resolved.

Suiato (talk)12:41, 10 January 2017

In case of the "If-then..." block, there is an alternative to leave the keywords untranslated. Because such keywords as "if", "then", "else if", "else" and "do" are often reserved words in most of programming languages and untranslated, it might as well be left untranslated even for children. These children using Blockly will not have difficulty to remember these words in English because they will be learning alphabets and simple English in the primary schools in Japan.

Suiato (talk)04:26, 15 January 2017

Current Japanese translation "変更 %1 に %2" is grammatically incorrect. Is it done so because the order of the variables %1 and %2 cannot be changed? Grammatically correct translation would be "%1を%2増す" for example.

Suiato (talk)18:23, 12 January 2017

You can change the order of variables, that's the point of variables.

Korean translation

A thread, Thread:Translating talk:Blockly/Korean translation, was moved from here to Portal talk:Ko. This move was made by Revi (talk | contribs) on 23 September 2015 at 10:57.

PLURAL support needed.

Shirayuki (talk)14:26, 8 August 2013

It should first be confirmed that %1 refers to the number of blocks to be deleted (and not to some other adjective such as a colour or other category) and this should be documented.

McDutchie (talk)14:58, 14 August 2013

Thanks. %1 is the number of blocks to be deleted, and seems to be 2 or more...

 var count = Blockly.mainWorkspace.getAllBlocks().length;
 if (count < 2 ||
     window.confirm(BlocklyApps.getMsg('discard').replace('%1', count))) {
Shirayuki (talk)15:22, 14 August 2013

That it's 2 or more does not negate the need for PLURAL support. There are languages (the Slavic family comes to mind) with singular, dual and plural forms, where plural is 3 or more.

McDutchie (talk)15:59, 14 August 2013

This message is no longer supported, so close this?

Translation not showing up in Blockly Games

I translated Blockly Games to Hungarian a while back for my daughter to learn programming, and my wife approved my translations around three weeks ago, but it's still not showing up in the games. What should I do?

Lajthabalazs (talk)13:32, 20 June 2015

Thank you for your translations! They were correctly committed, I'm not sure why they're not in use.

Nemo (talk)06:27, 24 June 2015

There appears to be a partial translation. I'm not sure how often the code on the app engine instance is updated. AFAIK, there also needs to be a conversion step from JSON to JavaScript files for the strings. I've created a ticket on GitHub about this. Once that's answered, Translating:Blockly should probably be updated.

Siebrand10:51, 24 June 2015

Thank you guys. What do you mean by partial? Do you refer to the translation currently online on the site, or did I miss something when translating?

Lajthabalazs (talk)07:22, 27 June 2015

I have a question. Where is this used?

Siebrand18:07, 28 January 2015

Have you checked the message documentation? Also I suggest playing a little bit :)

Macofe (talk)19:35, 30 January 2015

in Russian, rectangle has 'length' and 'width', in place of 'width' and 'height' in English, whereas line may have width. Thus, it's incorrect to combine 'width' for rectangle and line for translation.

MS (talk)22:30, 18 January 2015

Espertus, is there a way to split this label? You should use a different one for different cases. If impossible, the qqq should suggest how to translate where a literal translation doesn't work: maybe "measure", or something.

Nemo (talk)08:59, 19 January 2015

FuzzyBot uptades translations without marking them as fuzzy. It has happend in the past too. Some changes "revert" my edits although they are clearly incorrect (example). How should I manage that?

Macofe (talk)03:54, 15 November 2014

This is not about FuzzyBot itself, it means someone is translating directly on the repository (and they really shouldn't).[1]

The good news is that they're no longer doing that and Blockly was just released with 44 updated locales, so it seems all is good.

Nemo (talk)07:24, 15 November 2014

Do not simply overwrite existing translations without marking fuzzy.

\m/etalhead 14:46, 12 August 2013

That's exactly what happen today.

Macofe (talk)20:45, 14 November 2014

Blockly Games

Blockly is growing and we are migrating much of Blockly Apps over to a new site, Blockly Games:

 https://blockly-games.appspot.com/

Can we get a third sub-project, Blocky Games that sources from this repo:

 https://code.google.com/p/blockly-games/source/browse/#git%2Fjson

blockly@translatewiki.net is registered as a committer.

Over time the existing Blockly Apps will shrink in size.

NeilFraser (talk)20:13, 15 August 2014

Ping?

NeilFraser (talk)23:37, 20 August 2014

Ping? It has been three weeks...

NeilFraser (talk)03:28, 3 September 2014

Hi. It's often faster if you submit a patch first yourself, see example at Repository_management#Adding_a_new_project. Can't help more, sorry.

Nemo (talk)16:58, 8 September 2014

Hey Neil. Unfortunately these messages got burried in the pile. Things are resolved now.

Add language en-us

I propose adding support for English as spoken in the United States (en-us). Currently, there is support for en-ca and en-gb. I understand that en is assumed to be U.S. English but don't think it needs to be this way. The default English (en) used in Blockly is non-US English (using "colour"), and we find it useful to maintain a U.S. English translation (en-us) (using "color").

{{Support}

Espertus (talk)01:11, 10 September 2013

We can map it as such for your product. Here, en is assumed to be enUS.

Siebrand19:38, 24 September 2013

Still action needed, or can be closed?

Could you replace "http" by "https" automatically?

Shirayuki (talk)23:07, 30 November 2013

This string has the wrong help link.

Siebrand07:48, 18 October 2013

I believe this is now correct.

Ellen Spertus (talk)04:59, 19 November 2013

Looking through our commits, it doesn't seem to have changed. Does it still seem broken to you?

MATH_RANDOM_FLOAT_HELPURL ("https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Random_number_generation")

Ellen Spertus (talk)05:05, 19 November 2013

Looks fine. I probably meant that it had to be an HTTPS URL. Sometimes I don't use enough words when adding issues while translating...

Siebrand23:00, 2 December 2013

Preferred URLs for Wikipedia are https these days.

Siebrand16:12, 17 October 2013

Thank you. I will make this change.

Ellen Spertus (talk)05:08, 19 November 2013

URL missing?

Siebrand16:45, 17 October 2013

Intentional. See message documentation.
