Namely, these are table column headings, and the "avg" is meant to represent "average", because we're counting the number of common names that occurred, on average, for a search term within a given date range.

It's a Rails-specific term which means that in order for a URL like "eol.org/some_route" to work, "some_route" needs to be defined in one of the hard-coded config files.

So, essentially, it's a URL route with a specific name.

That's reasonable for now, thanks. It so happens that Eli is fluent in several languages, but I don't think it's actually appropriate to specify the others just yet. ...That email link should really be updated to something less specific, so if (for example) Eli is on vacation, it should be expected that it will be received and that the receiver shall be fluent in English.

Unknown; good question. I'll see if I can find an authoritative (hah) answer.

In the meantime, I'll just say that this /probably/ means that a name (which "Authority" awkwardly describes here) comes from the source that created the synonym in the first place, and should be considered authoritative. So I suppose you might say this 'authority' refers to 'the original source of this name'.

This is one of those words that comes from our content partners and thus we /cannot/ change it, so we sort of have to "make do" with translating it as best we can. Sorry.
