About FUEL message grouping

May I suggest that the FUEL messages be subgrouped according to application rather than just the 'desktop, mobile, web' setup we have now? So we'd better understand their meanings and relations with each other.

Anakmalaysia (talk)14:13, 23 April 2013

This is how FUEL works. There are three groups of messages in the standard.

Siebrand20:12, 26 April 2013

Thanks for the query. Actually we think for the same but there the same type of application can have different type of approach for different type of entries. For example, Home on desktop can be different from Home on Mobile and so on Web and so there translation may change. And so having this type of modular approach is better afaiu.

Details needed: Any blogger, a blogger, the blogger, this blogger, gender?

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)21:12, 22 April 2013

Context and message documentation needed.

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)14:26, 21 April 2013

Intranslateable without knowing what was published by whom, respectively the respective grammatical genders. Should be reworded with placeholders and using GENDER.

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)14:23, 21 April 2013

Need context: Is this message about a specific (known) file?

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)14:09, 20 April 2013

Can we use HTML entities in FUEL, most notably  , the non-breaking space?

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)13:14, 20 April 2013

What is translation project FUEL for?

Hello, what is translation project FUEL for? There are 3 words as information only - Beta. Unicorns. Bunnies. This sounds like Playboy but not like a serious software. There isn't any information on the TW main page, either. Thanks.

Michawiki (talk)14:01, 17 March 2013

It's a glossary project translation we picked up in our last visit to India. There is a little bit of information at Translating:FUEL. I hope someone else can elaborate.

Nike (talk)15:56, 17 March 2013

Thank you Nike. FUEL seems to be a promising project. I translate very much for several projects and for minority languages and it is often difficult to find the appropriate terminology and to ensure consistency. Regards,

Michawiki (talk)18:52, 17 March 2013

Thanks Michawiki for good words! Please refer: website: http://www.fuelproject.org/ community trac: https://fedorahosted.org/fuel/

The ugly group description should be updated soon. See gerrit:58482 and gerrit:58480.

Siebrand11:02, 10 April 2013

is it a noun or a verb?

Basetalkcontributions12:52, 3 March 2013

I'm expecting message documentation to be displayed for all messages in FUEL soon. Probably before the start of tomorrow.

Siebrand07:34, 4 March 2013

Is it soon soon?

Basetalkcontributions15:13, 30 March 2013

There is message documentation now, but your question appears to not be answered by it.

Siebrand09:52, 1 April 2013

There are a lot of such cases where it is impossible to understand what part of speech it is → imposible to translate clearly…

Basetalkcontributions12:01, 5 April 2013

Please make separate threads for all of them, and I'll ask the FUEL people to improve the documentation for all of those cases.

Siebrand18:08, 7 April 2013

I think it'd be wise for Fuel to point out what kind of word each of its terms to be translated are: noun, verb or adjective so we can translate better. It's not easy to translate certain words from English accurately because words like 'Filter' without any affixes or agglutinations could be either a noun (thing) or verb (action).

Anakmalaysia (talk)09:34, 1 April 2013

They are aware of it. Sometimes things could be improved, indeed.

Message documentation for this string is:

Context: Open office – Oocalc – Data – Filter. Shows commands to filter your data.

Is that sufficient?

Siebrand09:48, 1 April 2013

From what I understand, the documentation implies that this 'Filter' is an action, i.e. a verb, right?

Anakmalaysia (talk)12:43, 1 April 2013

Yes, that's what I understand, too.

Siebrand12:34, 2 April 2013

Thanks for the suggestion and feedback. We will try to rewrite the context for Desktop module as well. btw, it is verb here.

Rajesh (talk)12:58, 9 April 2013

Please provide context. Verb or adjective?

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)06:09, 8 April 2013

Context: Evolution – Mail – Message – Forward. Forwarding a selected message to somebody.

It is verb. Please do let's know if you have any further doubts.

Rajesh (talk)12:50, 9 April 2013

Verb or noun?

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)06:05, 8 April 2013

Context: Evolution –> File –> Import. Imports something like files to the application.

It is verb. Please do let's know if you have any further doubts.

Rajesh (talk)12:49, 9 April 2013

What does "history" mean in this context?

  • "revision history listed" as in MediaWiki
  • "history" as in 'the history of ancient Egypt'?
  • "past" as in 'Yougoslavia is history'?
  • something else?
Purodha Blissenbach (talk)05:59, 8 April 2013
  1. . Applications: firefox
  2. . Context: Firefox – History. The History menu contains a list of the most recently visited web sites and closed tabs.

^^ as mentioned in the context, it talks about a menu item "History" from Firefox web browser. Please do let's know if you have any further doubts.

Rajesh (talk)12:44, 9 April 2013

"Bowser" should be "Browser".

Shirayuki (talk)12:40, 22 February 2013

Resolved.

Siebrand07:49, 25 February 2013

Why is there a trailing space here?

Siebrand18:11, 12 February 2013

Resolved.

Siebrand07:48, 25 February 2013

"solgan" should be "slogan".

Shirayuki (talk)00:54, 16 February 2013

Seems to have been resolved. No longer present.

Siebrand07:48, 25 February 2013

Noun or verb?

Siebrand18:15, 12 February 2013

Context needed.

Siebrand18:09, 12 February 2013

In what context is this?

Siebrand18:09, 12 February 2013

Noun or verb?

Siebrand18:01, 12 February 2013

Is this a noun or a verb? As a verb it would be "Filteren" in Dutch, as a noun it would be "Filter".
