Translating talk:Intuition

Jump to navigation Jump to search

If you need help or want to make a request regarding the Intuition project, please create a thread below.

Requests such as the following:

Request a new tool to be added

Be sure you pass the following requirements as you follow these 5 steps:

  1. The tool is in a Git repository (or other public location) where the source code can be found (Tools translated by must be open-source).
  2. To ease the transition from English to multilingual it is recommended you start using the Intuition class in your tool before placing your request here. You can create a local development i18n-file and load it in the class as if it was synced from to the central i18n directory. Read more about this in the Intuition documentation. By preparing your English messages you will save yourself the trouble of a complicated switch. This way, once it's in, all you have to do is delete your local file and remove the call to $I18N->loadTextdomainFromFile().
  3. Show users of your tool that it is available in multiple languages and that they should visit the Intuition page to configure their settings. The easier way to do that is to call $I18N->dashboardBacklink() somewhere.
  4. Make a request here by creating a thread (be sure to include an URL to a live version of it as hosted on

This is a bit non-sensical. In MediaWiki we have all this data, and in many more languages. Heck, even CLDR has this. No reason for this awkward duplication. Should be set to ignored to indicate this is bad practice.

Siebrand23:53, 7 October 2013

Set to ignored.

Siebrand10:02, 3 December 2013

A colon should be added after "Linux/Mac OS".

Typo: Until (single L)

Siebrand23:51, 7 October 2013

Fixed Fixed. It's actually not a typo, but an obsolete spelling. I'm not sure why I was taught this.

Krinkle (talk)05:37, 18 November 2013

"Whats New" should be "What's new".

"Succesfully" should be "Successfully".

"Finalise" should be "Finalize".

"capitalised" should be "capitalized".

Shirayuki (talk)11:05, 26 June 2013

Are you sure Toolserver uses USA spelling?

Nemo (talk)17:01, 27 June 2013

Because "en-gb" exists and "en-us" doesn't exist, "en" should use US spelling.

These messages use US spelling (and have "en-GB" translations):

Shirayuki (talk)00:36, 28 June 2013

"url" should be "URL".

Shirayuki (talk)11:14, 26 June 2013

"Adresses" should be "Addresses".

"capitalised" should be "capitalized":

"Finalise" should be "Finalize":

You'll be submitting patches?

Siebrand18:19, 13 March 2013

I don't know where the repository is.

Shirayuki (talk)21:04, 13 March 2013

Ah, they are both toolserver messages. I thought they were MediaWiki. I'll fix those.

Siebrand22:11, 13 March 2013

Done. Will be imported this weekend.

"Show earlier images first": some translations interpret this as "show newer images first", others as "show older images first". This message needs documentation to clarify how to translate "earlier".

McDutchie (talk)15:45, 22 March 2013

Would someone who knows where this is used on Toolserver please confirm that this radio button really does "show earlier images first", meaning that an image dated 1 January 2013 appears before an image dated 2 January 2013? It seems odd that the message following it is "Show older images first", which appears to mean the same thing as "show earlier images first".

It's unclear if it supports {{PLURAL:.

To send the survey to participants or to submit filled survey?

Nike (talk)18:07, 22 December 2012

I think that support for this group should probably be removed, as the survey has been sent out.

"Source monuments list on Wikipedia"

How to translate this? Is "source" a verb or a noun? Are we:

  1. sourcing the monuments list on Wikipedia, or
  2. referring to a list of source monuments on Wikipedia, or
  3. referring to a source list of monuments on Wikipedia?
McDutchie (talk)10:09, 8 August 2012

"The source for the list of monuments on Wikipedia"

Siebrand07:54, 9 August 2012

This message does not make sense as it is.

  • If the file was containing a listing of files, i.e. their names, the possible inclusion of ", scaled to ..." is superfluous.
  • If this inclusion is needed, the file would not list, but contain the image files, as its context suggests as well.
Purodha Blissenbach (talk)09:58, 26 November 2011

It doesn't contain the image files, but the urls for the images.

When there are scaled restrictions present, the urls point to the thumbnails, not to the full-size images.

I hope to have made this clearer.

Platonides (talk)10:15, 5 August 2012

This message needs rewording. It is of the somewhat nonsential "click here" type. See also

Maybe, this request should be fed into an appropriate bug tracker?

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)09:37, 26 November 2011

This message is the tooltip of the link. The normal link text is Toolserver:Tsintuition-bl-mysettings/en or Toolserver:Tsintuition-bl-mysettings-new/en.
