If you need help or want to make a request regarding the Intuition project, please create a thread below.

Requests such as the following:

Request a new tool to be added

Be sure you pass the following requirements as you follow these 5 steps:

  1. The tool is in a Git repository (or other public location) where the source code can be found (Tools translated by must be open-source).
  2. To ease the transition from English to multilingual it is recommended you start using the Intuition class in your tool before placing your request here. You can create a local development i18n-file and load it in the class as if it was synced from to the central i18n directory. Read more about this in the Intuition documentation. By preparing your English messages you will save yourself the trouble of a complicated switch. This way, once it's in, all you have to do is delete your local file and remove the call to $I18N->loadTextdomainFromFile().
  3. Show users of your tool that it is available in multiple languages and that they should visit the Intuition page to configure their settings. The easier way to do that is to call $I18N->dashboardBacklink() somewhere.
  4. Make a request here by creating a thread (be sure to include an URL to a live version of it as hosted on

Original messages

Modify, Delete or Add messages in the source language.

Include the message-key and text-domain of the message and (if a modification is requested) why it should be modified and your proposed change.

Request to add new tool "templatecount"

'enter-details' => 'Enter details'
'introduction' => "Type in the name of a template (Wikipedias only at the moment, sorry) and press go. It's as simple as that. There is some caching (remembering of results), but that is unfortunately outside of the control of this tool and its owner."
'language-label' => 'Language'
'namespace-label' => 'Namespace'
'pagename-label' => 'Page name (excluding namespace)'
'transclusion-count-label' => 'Number of tranclusions'
'transclusion-count' => '$1 transclusion(s) found.'
'error-suggestion' => 'Perhaps you misspelt (or mis-capitalised) the name of the page?'
'time-label' => 'Time taken to execute command'

Can I also suggesting add "minutes" and "seconds" to the general list? Thanks.

I have infomed the autor. This is here for everone to be informed, too.

I've noticed some minor difficulties with Toolserver:Commonshelper2.

There are several messages about metadata all linking to a page "link" - better were individual pieces of text instead. Neither the messages nor the message documentation tells us, where links go. Thus translators are chanceless to use meaningful link anchors.

Reusing the word "metadata" for the textual description of files in a wiki (if I interpret messages right) is problematic, since "metadata" is also being used already in file description pages for embedded metadata found in many sound or image files. See MediaWiki:Exif-* messages for hundreds of examples of them. Identical words denoting different things in a usage context should be avoided if possible. How about using "wikitext description" or something similar throughout?

Message Commonshelper2-upload control text refers to an "Upload" button. Please consider using a placeholder since we do not know the exact translation. See also: "messages quoting each other".

Reading the words in message Commonshelper2-error_no_meta, I am first inclined to automatically translate "for the wiki" as "about the wiki" but I rather think "in the wiki" is meant.

Message Commonshelper2-error diff exists lacks an (indefinite) article at the beginning.

Reading message Commonshelper2-use tusc I sincerely doubt that TUSC could upload a file directly (I may be wrong), so the wording seems misleading. Likely, something like "Authenticate via TUSC and then commonshelper2 will upload the file directly for you." is meant.

Purodha Blissenbach11:01, 22 April 2011

sorry for the late answer but I was in holiday. I have updated the messages. They should be in TranslateWiki soon.

Jan Luca18:36, 5 May 2011

Thank you!

That solves several problems.

  • Commonshelper2-error diff exists is gramatically incorrect. It can be either of:
    • A different target file exists on the target wiki under the same name!
    • Different target files exist s  on the target wiki under the same name!
  • Even if the word "link" is now better described, I see no big difference. Knowing that the word is linked to a specific or arbitrary page from a list does not help when the purpose or the meaning of these pages remains as unclear as it is. I was unable to create (a) translation(s) of them because I would not know what to put into them. Also, that is not going to make "link" a useful link anchor. Maybe, I was not clear with my wording. "Link" is not the subject matter of the pages linked to. As it appears, we have about 4 mesages having a link "link" to pages. The link anchor should not be generic ("link") but should rather tell, what is linked to, such as "template list", or "metatdata", etc..

Jan Luca12:13, 9 May 2011

Thank you. I've updated the translations that I could identify having choosen the wrong possible meaning of Commonshelper2-error diff exists .

I still do not understand the "metadata/link" stuff. When I follow the link, does the target page inform us about a link to metadata?

  • No metadata found about the source wiki! $1Link to metadata$2

Is not rather meant:

  • No $1metadata$2 has been found about the source wiki!

Would not

  • Metadata: No good templates found! $1Link to metadata$2

better be:

  • No good templates were found in the wikis $1metadata$2!

  • Metadata: Bad template found! $1Link to metadata$2

may actually mean:

  • A bad template was found in the $1metadata$2 of the wiki!

Or am I mistaken, and the two metadatas are different, or are these messages indeed about correct linking and not about bad/missing metadata?

Thank you for you patience with me.

Purodha Blissenbach12:18, 10 May 2011

I changed it to "$1Please add/update the metadata for the project$2" because I want that the user of the tool look at the metadata so they are up-to-date.

Jan Luca14:46, 11 May 2011

Please reword. I had to read it multiple times to realize what is available.

Nike20:20, 23 April 2011

Should this message group be moved from MediaWiki extension to tsint?

Siebrand18:23, 24 April 2011
Edited by author.
Last edit: 18:38, 8 May 2011

Imho, eventually, yes. However that does require changes to the Citegen tool (using the new methods etc.)

Krinkle15:51, 1 May 2011

Can you contact the dev to make those changes?

Siebrand19:40, 1 May 2011

I find the sentence

  • This field lists available languages of every supported template, i.e. it may display French because only {{Cite book}} is supported.

confusing. What exactly does the displaying "French because only {{Cite book}} is supported" mean?

Hamilton Abreu14:34, 14 December 2010

Needs to be answered by the tool owner. No idea who that is...

Siebrand13:29, 29 December 2010

Why this message is not ignored?

Nike13:49, 30 April 2011

Because it can be translated?

Siebrand14:31, 30 April 2011

Then the documentation should not say "do not translate".

Nike20:48, 30 April 2011

Is the calculator automated or does it count automated edits?

Nike20:41, 23 April 2011

Should this message group be moved from MediaWiki extension to tsint?

Siebrand18:23, 24 April 2011

Documentation needed.

Nike20:15, 23 April 2011

Should this me moved to tsint instead of being in MediaWiki extensions?

Siebrand18:02, 24 April 2011

Is probably followed by a creator name.

Siebrand18:02, 24 April 2011

Please add to the documentation of message Tsintuition-bl-promo ("Translations are powered by $1 and $2.") → we need to know the anchor texts in paramters $1 and $2 so as to get the grammar right. Tx.

Purodha Blissenbach20:22, 7 April 2011

I just realize that, we need this message fuzzied, when anchor texts in the links are changed. I bet, we do not have a mechanism for this yet in place. → Bugzilla?

Purodha Blissenbach20:28, 7 April 2011
Edited by another user.
Last edit: 12:33, 23 April 2011

Noted as Noted as bug 28482 so as to not get it lost.

Purodha Blissenbach20:42, 10 April 2011

The message documentation of Orphantalk2-limit ("Limit") is not helpful enough for translating. What it its immediate context? Preceeded or followed by an input field? etc.

Purodha Blissenbach21:33, 7 April 2011

It's a label in front of a dropdown menu. I've updated the message documentation. Thanks!

Krinkle12:32, 23 April 2011

Can someone please provide a link to the tl version of this website?

AnakngAraw20:25, 22 April 2011

Hi, a /qqq would be nice to have here. Cheers

[[kgh]]18:15, 20 April 2011

Request for new messages

Domain: svgtranslate Reason: first batch of TUSC-integration messages.

  • 'uploading', 'Uploading'
  • 'uploaded', 'The upload completed successfully. The image should now be at $1.'
  • 'description-edit', 'Edit the new description page.'

  • 'option-tusc', 'TUSC automatic upload'
  • 'option-manual', 'Manual upload'

Jarry125010:47, 10 April 2011

Not sure what you are asking for. New messages in the message group, updating of source messages so that they are visible here at What exactly?

Siebrand12:50, 10 April 2011

Sorry, perhaps I should have been clearer. I am the user of the 'svgtranslate' domain of TsIntuition messages. I have just added a new raft of messages to the code, and I need them exposed to the TranslateWiki/TsIntuition interface. Because of the way the system works, I cannot expose them myself, so I was told to drop a note here:

(21:04:20) Me: Krinkle: Can I send you a quick email about some new messages I need. (21:04:47) Krinkle: I rather not, I've created a talk page for it, like other translatewiki projects use (21:05:06) Krinkle: (21:05:15) Me: Oh, sure :) That's fine too. (21:05:21) Krinkle: create a subject, enter the keys and values, and it'll be taken care of asap

Jarry125015:11, 10 April 2011

Ah, right :). This will happen every now and then. We haven't fully operationalised the Toolserver message groups yet. Please be patient for now.

Siebrand19:49, 10 April 2011

Sure, I guess I shall continue to post the lists here?

On that note, I have some more (again, all svgtranslate domain):

  • 'disclaimer', 'Some anonymous data will be privately collected for statistical purposes. If supplied, TUSC usernames will also be recorded to assist in the event of vandalism. Passwords will never be recorded.'
  • 'preview-hide', 'Hide preview'
  • 'preview-refresh', 'Refresh preview'
Jarry125017:17, 11 April 2011

These have been added to SVN. After the next sync you can remove them from your local override config.

Revision: r85821

  • I've made the message value of author-complete lowercase. You can uppercase this in PHP or with CSS when and where needed (style vs. content)
Krinkle20:26, 11 April 2011

More requests:)

For the svgtranslate domain:

  • 'error-must-accept' => 'To continue with a direct upload you must accept the terms of use provided.'
  • 'error-tusc-failed' => 'TUSC validation failed: username or password incorrect.'
  • 'description-license' => 'Select description and license'
  • 'finalise' => 'Finalise details'

For the 'jarry' domain, which I don't think is on TranslateWiki yet(?):

  • 'bugs' => 'bug reports and feature requests'
  • 'comments' => 'comments and queries'
  • 'error-form-empty' => 'One or more required fields have been left blank. You should complete them before continuing.'

Suggestions for the 'general' domain:

  • 'options' => 'Options'
  • 'error' => 'Error'
  • 'warning' => 'Warning'
Jarry125018:55, 13 April 2011

I have added all messages for 'svgtranslate', 'jarry' and 'general'.

Jan Luca16:43, 20 April 2011

Request to add the TS project "CommonsHelper2"

Hi, could you please add the TS project "CommonsHelper2":

--Jan Luca 16:16, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Jan Luca16:16, 20 April 2011

I have added the messages to the Wikimedia SVN.

Jan Luca16:42, 20 April 2011

Toolserver message needing PLURAL support

need PLURAL support. Yes, I know, it may not yet be available in this context.

Purodha Blissenbach18:22, 7 April 2011

Please redo message Tsintuition-bl-changelanguage ("Change the interface language of this tool.") so as to make it a meaningful link anchor.

Purodha Blissenbach20:38, 7 April 2011

Please add to the documentation of Orphantalk2-page ("Page") — what are the contents of the column with this heading? Links to the orphaned talk pages?

Purodha Blissenbach21:17, 7 April 2011

I suggest to think over the use of General-colon-separator ("

") in the light of the i18n hints on punctuation. Also consider positions of input fields, which sometimes are not behind prompts and colons.
Purodha Blissenbach23:58, 7 April 2011

I suggest to strip the unnecearily narrowing reference to "uploaded" from message General-toolversionstamp ("Version $1 ($2)") making it more generic. Reason: There are many tools that were never uploaded to the toolserver but are written and maintained onsite.

Purodha Blissenbach17:36, 7 April 2011

I agree completely, fixed in r85633.

Krinkle20:12, 7 April 2011

Time units in Toolserver:General- messages

Messages General-years ("years"), General-weeks ("weeks"), General-days ("days"), General-hours ("hours") do not really have a useful universal translation (in Czech, at least). The translation depends very much on the use, because of 1. plural handling, 2. declension. A message fragment “X hours” might end up being “1 hodina“, „2 hodiny“, „5 hodin“ (three-case plural), „1 hodinou“, „1 hodin“, etc. (declension).

Mormegil11:38, 7 April 2011

I agree, unless these strings are being used as prompts, which should be documented, then.

Purodha Blissenbach17:39, 7 April 2011

Thank you for your message. This is a known issue and is high on the list. Currently {{PURAL: does not exist yet, this is high on the priority list. For now I would recommend trying to do it the best way you know (the only known fact is that the number will be more than 1). If there is no best way without knowing the number, I recommend skipping the message until Plural-support is ready.

Thanks again for your contributions!

Krinkle20:06, 7 April 2011

For message General-last-modified-date ("Last modified: $1") I suggest to add a way to determine and supply localized dates and times. Maybe, it would be wise to use the 3-parameter "date/time", "date", "time" approach of many MediaWiki messages here, too.
