This string is not clear: it seems to say that there are more requests than those shown, but it actually means that the checkboxes under the selected one(s) will be selected too. Making it look like a button for an action rather than a link would also help.

Nemo (talk)14:58, 19 December 2013

This thread is created nearly 4 years ago, and is this issue fixed in the past years? If not, would asking at Phabricator be a good idea?

Liuxinyu970226 (talk)12:58, 14 May 2017

Needs documentation of the parameter §3.

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)08:17, 6 October 2015

It is not useful to repeat the message content in message documentation.

Is this a header, or is it an sentence with active verb (in other words: it is shown when the indexing is actually happening)?

Nike (talk)15:22, 11 July 2014

Those messages starting with "Indexing ..." are all log messages. You are definitely right the documentation needed to be improved. Added to all documentations that they are used in a log file. Thank you for the reports.

Smuggli (talk)08:51, 15 July 2014

You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:

The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Users.

You can view and copy the source of this page.

I tested this filter. It needs to say "or" not "and".

Gender in MediaWiki:Userrights-viewusergroup

MediaWiki:Userrights-viewusergroup seems to not allowing gender on translatewiki.

Woytecr (talk)12:00, 12 January 2017

What makes you think so?

Nemo (talk)10:05, 28 January 2017

Translation is shown as fuzzy and info about nonexistent parameter $1.

Woytecr (talk)10:16, 28 January 2017

Ah yes, the checker is wrong on this. Need to add explicit GENDER to the English message.

I think it would be better if the button "View history" were changed to simply "History" to save some space. Some translations like the fr, it, nlwiki, ru, sr, ro, already do this, and it's still obvious what the button does. In my honest opinion, it makes sense to save space where it's possible, like with "My preferences" to "Preferences" or "My talk" to "Talk" in the past, et cetera.

Srdjan m (talk)14:35, 9 July 2015

Thank you for your request and opinion. This interface has been researched extensively, and no changes will be made to such a highly visible UI element. This request has been denied.

Typo in "The ID if the Flexiskin (optional).".

"if" should be "of".

Reported on Phabricator as T149055.

Translations into Tatar language ('tt' vs 'tt-cyrl' / 'tt-latn')

As i noticed some time back, new translations into Tatar language is not tranferred to tatar Wikipedia (tt.wikipedia.org).

My investigation:

  1. For translators available three language code for Tatar language (through language selector in top right corner of Special:Translate) - "tt" (татарча), "tt-cyrl" (татарча) and "tt-latn" (tatarça). All of them are now contain translated messages. There are no warning messages for translators.
  2. But if you go to a direct link wth "tt" langcode, you will see that
    • caption for "tt" is "татарча/tatarça"
    • warning message "This language code should remain unused. Localise in tt-cyrl please"

If "tt" is deprecated, please

  1. disable this code for selection in the Special:Translate
  2. change caption of this code that displayed in the languages list, to "татарча/tatarça"
  3. copy all translations from "tt" into "tt-cyrl" (if target translations is not exists)

This should be applied also to meta-wiki and another Wikimedia wikis.

A separate question - which language file is used for Tatar Wikipedia (cyrillic script used by default; no working switch)? tt-cyrl.json or tt.json ? As i noticed, tt.json files now does not creates.

Note: In Meta, MW.org etc. was used "tt" code for cyrillic translations, by default.

@Siebrand: please help, udm.json not updated again from 2014-10-23. Why?

By way, i noticed, that udm.json for Wikimedia messages, was updated normally, after addition new translations.

Last edit: 12:59, 11 July 2016

udm is not exported because it's only 8 % translated, less than the minimum (see Translating:MediaWiki). There was recently a complete re-export of all languages because Nike changed the minimum.

Nemo (talk)22:12, 6 July 2016

Ok, thanks! I forgot about this limitation...

Kaganer (talk)13:50, 11 July 2016

I am considering following enhancements to our exports:

  1. if l10n file exists, ignore threshold and export it anyway
  2. delete files that are below threshold (smaller than the export threshold)
Nike (talk)14:22, 11 July 2016

Thanks, but I know a better way: I encourages udm-wp users to translate into Udmurt further 100-200 messages from "most important" list.

Lists i18n: how to enter double and for last two items

In Chechen language, when you mean "and", you must write "and" two times. Example: Chechnya а, Russia а.

MediaWiki:Math-search-relation-0/ce а, MediaWiki:Smw finallistconjunct/ce а.

Умар (talk)18:34, 1 March 2016

As far as I can see the first one is no used in lists. SMW does not allow localisation of the comma at all.

For MediaWiki core there is And (" and") and Comma-separator (", ").

Something is definitely wrong with the message: https://uk.wikiquote.org/w/index.php?title=Купкеркно&action=edit but it seems that it's on the part of the parameter

Basetalkcontributions10:27, 14 August 2015

It's not the first time I look but I still don't see what's wrong. Please clarify.

Nemo (talk)20:01, 31 August 2015

«див. [статтю]». In source it's «див. [$1 довідкову статтю]»

Basetalkcontributions17:15, 9 November 2015

Oh I see, MediaWiki:Newarticletext/uk was expecting "helppage" to be a wikilink while it's an URL. Fixed by updating the translation.

GENDER support in 'user' please.

Macofe (talk)23:11, 13 August 2015

The patch was reverted, but you can use {{GENDER:|male|female|other}} instead.

What precisely does "line wrapping" refer to, here? Automatic wrapping; rendering of existing line breaks in a data field; etc.?

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)17:30, 26 May 2015

I expanded the documentation. Is it clear now?

Tacsipacsi (talk)22:03, 17 December 2015

yes, thank you!

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)12:40, 17 March 2016

This message is invalid on a semantic level. IP-Addresses are address, not servers or services. Acting as a proxy is a service. You cannot mix theses. Also, I wonder that related messages talk about "open proxy" servers, but this one does not. That should be straightened for clarity, at least. Furthermore, is the action performed, or aborted? In the latter case it has not been performed, then, or has it? If a request comes from a proxy server, it is unlikely - though possible - that the person that originally initiated it and shall read his message, is using the proxy itself as his or her desktop computer, so the assumption that the proxies IP-Address is "your IP-Address" is likely false, too.

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)05:47, 10 June 2015

GENDER support for 'user' please.

Macofe (talk)21:49, 8 June 2015

If my guesswork is good, the message should be documented as:

This is a log entry. Each log entry has three standard parameters:

  • $1 - user who performed the action (usually linked to the user page)
  • $2 - unused, or user who performed the action (to be used with GENDER)
  • $3 - the affected page (usually linked)

Parameters $1 and $3 are invisible to parser functions; you cannot use any magic functions to read their value. Wiki markup is not supported in these messages.

That needs to be confimed, however. If so, adding GENDER support for $3 is not entirely trivial ;-) at least not for me.

Purodha Blissenbach (talk)10:28, 19 June 2015

What is "import" meaning here? Imperative, process, result? Please document.
