In the meantime, is it possible to "avoid the issue" with something akin to "%{username} marked this object (%type) as inappropriate."  ?

If the number of possibilities is limited, duplication is the best option. Just create 4 messages with one parameter less, instead of 1 with an additional parameter.

I used the workaound you suggested. What about the solution Siebrand suggested?

We've implemented other keys in this manner (since this particular key has since been removed).
