Former WMF app now community-maintained, where to crowdsource localization?

Yes, https://github.com/nicolas-raoul/apps-android-commons is the canonical repository. @siebrand is already a committer. I have invited @yuvipanda and @Nikerabbit for committer access and I am waiting for them to accept the invitation. The app has been released already: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fr.free.nrw.commons I have signed a contract with WMF allowing me to use the official "Wikimedia Commons" brand name and logo.

Are you waiting for any action on our side? We did everything you asked for, what is blocking? More and more users are asking us where to localize the app, and it is a shame that we have no URL to give them. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon, cheers!

I have been busy. I'll try to re-check the status of this soon to get this sorted out.

Nike (talk)14:01, 22 August 2016

Hello Nike, we are anxiously waiting - people from all over the world are using the Commons app and there is only English version available. Can you please help? User of the app.

Hello Nike, any chance you had time to work on this? Thank you

Vojtěch Dostál (talk)19:39, 6 October 2016

I am very tight on time currently. I am trying to get some help via Setup of a new project.

Nike (talk)07:51, 12 October 2016

Can we also ask someone else for help?

Vojtěch Dostál (talk)14:03, 29 October 2016

Hi there! I may be able to help. It looks like the app was disabled with this changeset. If we restore it but change the repositories, we should be able to make it work, I think. I will take a look, but we will still depend on User:Nike or another TWN committer to review and merge the change.

Eloquence (talk)21:13, 29 October 2016

Hi Eloquence, thank you for your attention :-). It would be cool if you tried moving this a bit forward.

Vojtěch Dostál (talk)17:42, 5 November 2016

A changeset is now in progress here: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/325776/

Provided we resolve any outstanding issues, we should be able to restore translation functionality soon.

Eloquence (talk)14:12, 7 December 2016

Wooow, thanks for working on this :-)

Vojtěch Dostál (talk)21:28, 7 December 2016

There's a question/suggestion for you on which Android releases are supported.
