Planned server upgrade on December 20th

Planned server upgrade on December 20th

We have a new server from our sponsor Netcup. It will replace both of our current servers.

The upgrade will bring the following benefits:

  • Increased performance thanks to more RAM and faster disks.
  • Room for future growth: more translations, more projects, new services.
  • More secure and easier to maintain operating system. We are switching from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS to Debian 10, which is also used by Wikimedia Foundation.

The server upgrade is planned for December 20th. Based on past experience, this will involve multiple hours of read-only time and a couple of day of disruptions to the regular search, translation search and translation memory features. We will rebuild those indices rather than trying to move them over. The version of ElasticSearch backing these features is also updated.

I will put up a site notice next week.

Why Wikimedia Foundation can't give server for this project?

Zoranzoki21 (talk)20:01, 15 December 2019

They don't have such servers.

Looks like site loads much faster and it is more stable. Thank you! If I find something incorrect, I will report :).

Thank you for making this project be better.
