Request for enabling azb (South Azerbaijani)
We want to enable the azb(South Azerbaijani). Because it's a test wiki and require localization(localisation) to be a real one. Also beside me there are some other users that have great power of translating the English messages(or other materials) to South Azerbaijani. Also the portal and translators are registered and listed here. The other information is in that page. We greatly appreciate you if you help us to start translating to azb. Regards.
yea،for triggering translating (azb) .we are ready translating .
* ISO 639-3 code: azb * Language name in english: South Azerbaijani * Language name in its own:تورکجه * writing direction: RTL * Writing script: Arabic * Fall-back language: English
What script would you like the primary localisation to be in? Ethnologue mentions that this language is being written in 3 different scripts: Arabic script, used in Iraq. Cyrillic script, used in Afghanistan. Latin script.
I will also need the autonym (the name of this language in the language itself) in (preferably) each of the scripts.
Hi Siebrand,
The script for South Azerbaijani which we use is Arabic script. Its local name in each script is as follows:
- Arabic: تورکجه
- Latin: Azərbaycanca
- Cyrillic: Азәрбајҹанҹа
Please note that the names above are not exact transliterations, because the name is somehow different in regions using those scripts. The Arabic is pronounced "Turkje" while the latin and cyrillic is pronounced "Azerbaijanja".
Thanks for your attention. Mousa (talk) 19:22, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
Note meta:Talk:Language_committee#Localisation_Wp/azb: it might be wiser to localise in az-arab.
It also have problems, too.
What problems?
The issue here is:
- Will you localise in Azerbaijani like "az" but in Arabic script, with few further differences? In that case we should enable "az-arab" (i.e. Azerbaijani in Arabic script).
- If however there are a lot of differences from "az", then we should enable a "azb" (i.e. a separate South Azerbaijani).
In both cases this does not necessarily mean you will be allowed to get a South Azerbaijani Wikipedia! That is a different issue.
azb
I have added azb with the name "South Azerbaijani" because it was difficult to write in a non-Latin script. It should sometime be changed to تورکجه.
Additionally, because it's an RTL locale, I added MessagesAzb.php, so that the RTL UI can be set. That's done now.
Thanks again.
As you see at Ethnologue the great number of native speakers are in Iran(Northwest of Iran). Also it's accepted in a two seminar in Iran by Some of the linguists(See here is in south Azerbaijani language). Also, Arabic script is primary and literary y and widely used. Also it's taught in University of Tabriz. So Arabic script is the right script. If you don't accept let me time that I find other resources to prove my sentence. Also the autonym as exist in main page of azb test wiki is the term تورکجه.
hi.)or if you're working on it, please inform us of the progress so we understand your efforts. It's been two months that me and my friends are working continuously on this wiki and have created a deserving one (Take a look at our activity). Our wiki now have more articles than some approved real wikipedias, which are active for months or years! Thanks in advance for your consideration
Hi, to be clear: this wiki (translatewiki.net) is about the software translation, whereas meta:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia South Azerbaijani is about the possible approval of the wiki.
