Request for enabling azb (South Azerbaijani)

Hi Siebrand,

The script for South Azerbaijani which we use is Arabic script. Its local name in each script is as follows:

  • Arabic: تورکجه
  • Latin: Azərbaycanca
  • Cyrillic: Азәрбајҹанҹа

Please note that the names above are not exact transliterations, because the name is somehow different in regions using those scripts. The Arabic is pronounced "Turkje" while the latin and cyrillic is pronounced "Azerbaijanja".

Note meta:Talk:Language_committee#Localisation_Wp/azb: it might be wiser to localise in az-arab.

It also have problems, too.

What problems?

The issue here is:

  • Will you localise in Azerbaijani like "az" but in Arabic script, with few further differences? In that case we should enable "az-arab" (i.e. Azerbaijani in Arabic script).
  • If however there are a lot of differences from "az", then we should enable a "azb" (i.e. a separate South Azerbaijani).

In both cases this does not necessarily mean you will be allowed to get a South Azerbaijani Wikipedia! That is a different issue.

azb

I have added azb with the name "South Azerbaijani" because it was difficult to write in a non-Latin script. It should sometime be changed to تورکجه.

Thanks a lot.

Additionally, because it's an RTL locale, I added MessagesAzb.php, so that the RTL UI can be set. That's done now.

Thanks again.
