Request for new language Aja ([[Portal:ajg]])

Can you please ask them how to write the name of that language in that language?

It must be something that can appear in a list such as this:

  • Deutsch
  • English
  • fɔ̀ngbè
  • français
  • עברית
  • Nederlands
  • русский
  • Yorùbá

I saw several variants: "aja", "adja", "ajagbe" "ajagbé", "adjagbé", and others. I need help with choosing the right one.

Also, it would be ideal if your friend could join the site as soon as possible. There's not much to set up :)

As there is no formal education in Aja, my friend tends to have a bit sloppy spelling at times, so it's hard to check for certain about that. The usage on JW.org shows "Aja" as the native form, and that is how he usually calls it himself. The longer forms are synonymous and can be used to distinguish in case of confusion. There is very little existing writing, as the written language/language of education in Benin is French, it's mostly a spoken language.

On my way to onboard everyone, it might need some handholding here and there to get used to the interface etc xD.

I suspect one of the first things to happen will be actually setting up orthographic norms etc, because there don't seem to be any... I might be able to get the author of one of the few dictionaries of the language on board, so we will figure things out xD.

Thanks. I'll enable it soon.

Note that the term "Aja" alone is ambiguous with another unrelated language. You indicated the ISO 639 code [ajg], assuming this is the correct language, i.e. the one spoken in Benin and Togo.

"Adja" is the native name, sometimes used in English or French but rarely, ISO 639 and Glottolog use "Aja (Benin)" by default.

Another longer (non-ambiguous) name is "Aja-Gbe" (in English) or "aja-gbé" (in French, spoken officially in Benin and Togo). Gluing it to "ajagbé" is incorrect ("gbé" refers to the group of languages in which "aja" in Benin/Togo is classified).

The portal is created and fixed, but still the language is not enabled (Amir will do that as he said) and in that case the "disabled=yes" flags will be removed (as well as the no-15924=1 flag which disables the link to the translation in the Latin script).

This is now enabled. I put a list of useful links on Cyprien's user page. I recommend starting from the top of that list. Ask me if you need any assistance.
