What about adding a switch like

to messages like MediaWiki:Wikimedia-copyright/en so that the link points to the secure server when the users are logged in to https://secure.wikimedia.org/?

There is no need to link to that content page using SSL.

Let's wait for WMF to sort out their HTTPS issues first.

When connected to a secure server, you should stay on it, when following links. If a relative link would not do it here, a way should be found to stay on the secure server nevertheless. Thus reported as bug 29053.
