I have already added some code review comments on this extension, and made a few fixes. Currently it's riddled with i18n issues.

sphinxSearchPreamble ("Displaying $1—$2 of $3 {{PLURAL:$3|match|matches}} for query "<nowiki>$4</nowiki>" retrieved in $5 sec with these stats:") should use PLURAL as well, for the expression $3 matches. I don't know what the word retrieved refers to - if to the word matches, PLURAL should be used for this word as well.
