Usually you need to be able to speak a language with proficiency of 4 or above to work as a translator here. If your ability is less than 4 it will still be possible for you to work on en-gb, working with the other translators for en-gb. Since there are only 2 other translators for en-gb and neither appear to be very active, I am willing to help you with this. When requesting to be a translator for en-gb, please refer to this discussion so that the staff know the situation. I will write about how we can easily collaborate in translating en-gb later.

Mm.. Two little questions more.
What action does the instrument "Parent" do? Where should I place that 'babel' — is it under the heading "My languages"? Or, maybe, there is some special, conventional place somewhere else?

By the way, I've been to the 'Behind the Name' site. There is a disadvantage there — that I didn't find a pronunciation to the name. I am trying to send them an e-mail noticing that. (Never mind! I'm quite sure how to pronounce yours – I just consider the site's features:)

The easiest way to proceed once you have translator rights is to set your language in preferences to be en-gb. Then when you work out how to edit messages, I recommend that you put the wikitext !!FUZZY!! at the beginning of any message that you edit. Any messages with !!FUZZY!! at the beginning will not be 'committed' to the software. They will stay in the 'review changes' box where they can be reviewed by another translator for en-gb. I am quite happy to do reviews for en-gb and you are welcome to put a note on my talk page when you have work ready for me to review.
