Welcome to Betawiki![edit source]

Hi Raymond. Welcome to Betawiki. Before you can use Special:Translate, and Special:Magic, please request translator rights at Betawiki:Translators. Please create a user page on which you describe which language(s) you will be working on. If you are going to be an active user here, please also add your name to the languages you will be working on at Translating:Languages. For an overview of the languages that are being worked on here, you can have a look at Translating:Developer log. Other useful pages can be Support and Import requests.

Once you have started translating, please remember to often request a commit of your translation work at Translating:Tasks. This makes the number of changes easier to handle for the devs.

I wish you a productive and pleasant stay. Cheers! Siebrand 20:18, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Also könnte wohl eher Mittel gefragt sein. Kann man irgendwie den Zusammenhang ersehen, ohne sich durch Quelltexte forsten zu müssen? Gruß, --Revolus 23:06, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Hallo Revolus, wenn unter MediaWiki:Viewapc-display-device/qqq keine Beschreibung der Message vorhanden ist, bleibt leider nur vorhandenes Wissen oder Quellcodestudium. Letzteres verwirrte mich jedoch, da die Message scheinbar gar nicht verwendet wird. Needs further investigation, please hold the line … Raymond 11:52, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
You could use Support for generic questions. Possibly Portal talk:De for German localisation specific questions. Siebrand 12:35, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Kurze Frage[edit source]

Warum wurde diese Änderung noch nicht ins SVN eingespielt? --Metalhead64 11:24, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Änderungen an den Magischen Wörtern werden nur auf eine explizite Bitte ins SVN übernommen: Translating:Tasks#Commit requests. Raymond 12:58, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Ah, danke. --Metalhead64 13:23, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Translating:Tasks#Commit requests[edit source]

Hi! Die Anfragen sind jetzt schon teilweise über eine Woche auf der Seite. Wann werden die denn endlich übertragen? Grüße, --Metalhead 11:15, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Huch, ganz überlesen, aber mittlerweile shcon von Siebrand erledigt. Raymond 18:09, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Ow exporttsv not allowed/de/MediaWiki:Ow importtsv not allowed/de[edit source]

Sollte man dann MediaWiki:importlangnames not allowed/de auch anpassen?

Plural syntax[edit source]

from support:

Hi, I am puzzled about this edit. I made it as described in the FAQ. And now it seems to me as bad syntax. Will you please explain. Thanks, Byrial 23:24, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

"#" stands for "a number". PLURAL always depends on a message parameter that is a number. So using "$#" literally is incorrect by definition, as it is never a parameter. Parameters are $1, $2, and in some messages they go up to $7 (highest I can think of). So Raymond replaced the "#" with "2" to make the message valid. More clear? Siebrand 23:27, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Does that mean the FAQ section that I linked to above is wrong? Byrial 23:33, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
No, it is not clear. I am very confused. The FAQ says that {{PLURAL:$1|word|word}} can be shortened to {{PLURAL:$#|word}}, and now you say that that is incorrect. Byrial 02:07, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Babel-autocreate-text-levels

Babel-autocreate-text-levels is not translateble to Ripuarian languages without excessive use of GRAMMAR on the combination of $1, and $2, or a set of case switches on $2 (level) and nevertheless GRAMMAR on $1. How is GRAMMAR added, or extended, in an extension? It needs to be implemented as php code, and it needs to be supplied inside the extension. What I need to know is, how to properly plug it in. Is there a how-to guide? --Purodha Blissenbach 22:38, 12 February 2009 (UTC) I think this is far too technical, and so beyond the scope of this wiki. Could you please create a bugzilla on this? Siebrand 13:04, 13 February 2009 (UTC) GRAMMAR is a core function. Defined per language in /languages/classes/LanguageXxx.php, i.e. for 'dsb'. Feel free to program and commit your 'ksh' Grammar function. Raymond 13:53, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

continued:

Just FYI: I interpret Siebrands comment as an answer "no/none" to my question about guidance. :-)
Your hint is wrong twice. While GRAMMAR functionality can be implemented in a language file, just recently some of the core GRAMMAR routines have been moved to Extension:Mediawiki, imho systematically correctly. Pretty huge lists, comprising GRAMMAR for some 300 languages, a number constantly increasing, only used in Extension:Babel atm, should imho not be in core. Thus we need a way to coordinate GRAMMAR of core and various extensions. I had already tried Bugzilla:17242 on this subject matter before I asked here, to no avail as well. So I'm likely having to find out on my own how this is done, or implement a solution, if one does not exist yet, before I can proceed to actually add the language GRAMMAR list to Babel. Greetings. --Purodha Blissenbach 13:52, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Kleiner Rechtschreibfehler[edit source]

Entschuldigung, aber mir ist eine Kleinigkeit aufgefallen:

Diese Seite enthält momentan noch keinen Text. Du kannst diesen Titel auf den anderen Seiten suchen, in den zugehörigen Logbüchern suchen oder dieser Seite bearbeiten.

Kleiner Fehler, das "R" muss bei "dieser" weg. Also korrekt dann so: Diese Seite enthält momentan noch keinen Text.

--Sionnach 12:53, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

MediaWiki:Monobook.js/lmo[edit source]

Hi Raymond, thanks for having tidied up. Sorry about the mess, but I'm still unclear as to the relationship between those messages that are local to the lmo.wiki, and those that are on translatewiki. --Dakrismeno 10:34, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks[edit source]

Thanks for this. I didn't know it. Gulmammad 18:32, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

What was the purpose of your edit? Maybe I can help you to fix an issue. Raymond 18:35, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
The current translation is incomplete. I don't know how to fix it. {{PLURAL:$1|Category|Categories}} is translated as {{CƏM:$1|Kateqoriya|Kateqoriyalar}} but it shows error message.Gulmammad 13:54, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
I have fixed it with this edit. You may not translate PLURAL. On translatewiki always use PLURAL. Only in az.wikipedia the translated magic word CƏM works. Raymond 14:08, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. I see you have kept $1 in front of {{PLURAL:$1|Kateqoriya|Kateqoriyalar}}. Should I put it always in front of such messages or it was mistaken left out there? I also don't know how to fix this one. --Gulmammad 16:00, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
I do not know the singular/plural rules of your language. If the number 1 is singular and all other numers are plural:$1 {{PLURAL:$1|Kateqoriya|Kateqoriyalar}} is identical to {{PLURAL:$1|$1 Kateqoriya|$1 Kateqoriyalar}}. It's up to you what do you like more. If singular/plural are more complex you need another syntax.
I fixed MediaWiki:Welcomecreation/az with this edit. Never translate the English special page names like [[Special:Preferences|...]] and the magic words like {{SITENAME}}. Remind that your translations should be neutrale, not Wikipedia specific. A lot of other companies, not related to Wikipedia, uses MediaWiki and your translations.
If the translation is ok now, please remove the !!FUZZY!! tag from the message. Raymond 21:34, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the help. I removed the  !!FUZZY!! tag. Gulmammad 22:30, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

re: SVN[edit source]

Thank you for reminding me. I am not intentional. I will fix those !!FUZZY!! tag. I'm sorry!! --PhiLiP 08:14, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

—Pill (talk) 19:40, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Here's why:[edit source]

RE: your message: Here's why I am replacing English with English: there's a decision to leave roll-over messages and tooltips in English as the sociolinguistic setting dictates "bilinguality"; however, I was twice told that any implementation of namespaces will be refused until all messages are translated.

The fact that some of the namespaces are blatantly wrong and partially offensive triggered my interest in this project in the first place. I therefore decided to "up" the translation-percentage artificially to get the namespaces implemented and finally get rid of, for example, the user talk page which right now ambiguously says "molest this user" instead of straightforward "talk to this user".

I do not understand how a user without any knowledge of the language could get these kinds of namespaces approved while translating barely 3 or 4 other messages, while I need to fight so hard to correct them. Seb az86556 21:10, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

If you want to leave things in English, you should leave them in English. Pretending to do a job for another language while at best paraphrasing in English is not on. It is one sure way to destroy your reputation as a localiser and it is exactly what you achieved. In my opinion languages deserve respect and localisation ensures that a language is treated properly. Wikipedia is not to be written with a dictionary in one hand and a book on grammar in the other. Thanks, GerardM 07:16, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
I agree, yet I don't understand. That is exactly what my predecessor did and that is how phrases like "molest this user" came about. I am trying to undo the damage done by him/her. My reaction was out of frustration, and I have explained this. All I wish for honestly is for the one offense phrase to disappear. And I wish my predecessor had been treated with the same well-justified scrutiny. Seb az86556 09:07, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
