Exif is a format for storing metadata in image files. See this Wikipedia article and the example at the bottom of this page on Commons. The tags are explained briefly and in further detail.

Some cameras offer the option to record an audio "memo" for the photo they just took. If the user did that, the name of the file is labelled with this message.
