Hello, dear Betawiki user.

This is our third e-mail newsletter, after the previous in mid July. It
intends to keep you updated on Betawiki's developments, and is also aimed at
reminding you to visit http://translatewiki.net at least once every month to
update the language(s) you have been contributing to in the past, so that
the localisations will stay up to date.

Noteworthy events
-----------------
* Niklas has finished the programming on his Summer Coding Project[1], and
is working on the last task: documentation[2]. Please help out if you can.
* Betawiki needs more projects besides MediaWiki, its extensions, FreeCol,
and Vocabulary Trainer. If you are dissatisfied with the localisation
process of your favourite free open source product, and have some pull in
the project, please come talk to us. We currently support Java
.properties, Gettext, and PHP $messages. Adding support for more file
formats is relatively easy and needs some PHP coding.
* The Betawiki Language Project is still running. Bounties are available for
translations into dozens of languages from Africa, Asia, and Latin
America, like Oriya, Afrikaans, Yoruba, Nyanja, Gikuyu, and Guaraní[3].
* Support for Mobile Broadband Configuration Assistant has unfortunately
been dropped. News has reached us that the Gnome translator community does
not appreciate outside help, as they communicated to the developer.
* We have imported all messages of all supported products. This will enable
us to provide more complete support when messages change. Messages will
  be synced both ways.
* More details news is available on-wiki[4].

Status overview
---------------
* MediaWiki core messages: 81 core messages were added since the last update
bring the total to to 2,024. There are now 160 (-37 fewer) optional
messages[5]. MediaWiki 1.13 was released recently, containing 59,000 more
translated messages than MediaWiki 1.12. That is an addition of almost 20
  full localisations!
* MediaWiki extensions: Currently Betawiki supports 244 MediaWiki
extensions, which is an increase of 9 since the last update. In total the
supported MediaWiki extensions have 4,661 (+503) normal messages, and 126
  (+28) optional messages[6].
* FreeCol: Localisation of FreeCol is continuing as normal, support for more
languages is progressing steadily. FreeCol 0.8.0 alpha is available for
download. Please update your translations for the release version. Current
message volume 1,650 (+95) regular messages and 360 (unchanged) optional
  messages[7].
* Vocabulary trainer: this product makes it possible to use OmegaWiki word
collections as input for vocabulary training[8]. It currently contains 64
  (unchanged) messages.
