checkbox a small square box you can select in which case it is usually filled with a character like a "v" or an "x". It is used to choose options. Many examples can be observed in MediaWikisSpecial:Preferences. In British English this was also called a tickbox, especially when it was used on paper forms.
to check, to tick, to mark, to select, to activate the action of selecting a checkbox. In British English the term to tick means the same as to check. To 'mark' and 'select' are other synonyms for 'check' in this context.
to uncheck, to untick, to unmark, to unselect, to deselect, to deactivate the action of unselecting a checkbox. In British English the term unticked means the same as uncheck. To 'unmark' and 'unselect' are other synonyms for 'uncheck' in this context.
