Reason why this is not a translation of the original

This is not a translation of the English original. The reason is that in the German localization, this option will produce a result that is different from the result it produces in the English localization.

In the English localization it will assign gender-neutral references. By contrast, in the German localization it will assign the masculine grammatical gender (w:de:generisches Maskulinum). Therefore, this option will produce the same result as the option MediaWiki:Gender-male/de in the German localization.
