WikibaseQualityConstraints messages
Hi, and thank you for translating WBQC messages! I’m the current main developer of the WikibaseQualityConstraints extension, and I just noticed that some of your translations match the pattern “letter followed by a parenthesis”, like “a(n) thing” in English, for example:
- Wbqc-violation-message-parameter-item ("
The value for the parameter "$1" must be an item, not "$2".
") - Wbqc-violation-message-diff-within-range-leftopen ("
The difference between $3 ($4) and $1 ($2) should be no more than $5.
")
I was just wondering if you needed any more message parameters to produce a less ambiguous message (e. g. with PLURAL
or GRAMMAR
) – if so, I could add those parameters :)
Thanks for your kind words.
You may find some cases such as 이(가) or 은(는) or 을(를) in Korean translations. These are called Korean postpositions and let me briefly explain that they are considered very important in Korean language.
- Either 을 or 를 can be determined for the objects. (corresponds to を in Japanese)
- Either 이 or 가 (corresponds to が in Japanese) can be chosen for the subjects.
- Sometimes either 은 or 는 (corresponds to は in Japanese) can be selected for the subjects.
I'd be glad if you can create a message parameter called HANGUL for the Translatewiki.net.
Both {{HANGUL|$1|이}} and {{HANGUL|$1|가}} will check the ending character of $1 and then return "$1이" or "$1가". Both {{HANGUL|$1|은}} and {{HANGUL|$1|는}} will check the ending character of $1 and then return "$1은" or "$1는". Both {{HANGUL|$1|을}} and {{HANGUL|$1|를}} will check the ending character of $1 and then return "$1을" or "$1를". $1 will be subsequently replaced with the intended string for the real system. Because contributors do not know what the $1 is during the translation, they are also not able to determine whether to use 이 or 가, 은 or 는, 을 or 를. Therefore, they just had to put the parenthesis like 이(가), 은(는), or 을(를) in the Korean sentences.
For details, please refer to the following module used in Korean Wikipedia to determine which one can be used for the postpositions. https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/Module:Hangul
I hope you find this information useful. Thank you.
Hm, if this isn’t already supported by the message system, then I don’t think I can spend the time to add support for it… this needs to be supported by MediaWiki core as well, adding support on translatewiki.net won’t be enough. (I found the related ticket phab:T15712, but I think that’s only for page content, not for system messages.)
