Equals signs in messge keys are not very practical when you wan to use message keys as parameters in templates. The example below

  • {{msg-nocc|Dfdb68cd73174c0ed26b8225f7e2e0ab1c30e3fc-The a href=" s" developer help|notext=yes}}

shows what you get when you do not know how to take special care of them, which was done in the next line:

So as to avoid such pitfalls, it would be good to ask coderd not to use or generate message keys with equals signs inside, if possible. I don't know of an appropriate recommendations page, and could not find one. Should we start one?

If we ask, shouldn't it go into I18n?

NOCC! Got it. Sorry. No, sorry, didn't get it. Previous comment applies again, :-)

Added a short blurb to [[mw:I18n#Adding_new_messages|]], but there should be hints also in the context of "adding new products to translatewiki.net".

I have added a section on Message identification to the page "Localisation for developers", trying to be brief.
