Template talk:CreativeCommonsLicense
Supid blocking by Nemo bis
Nemo_bis rejected the valid arguments for the version exposed in https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Template:CreativeCommonsLicense&oldid=7552815
- This document template (used to render in "/qqq" translation helpers) does NOT reflect the source of the message which is to use protocol-relative URLs
- So translations have been produced that were incorrectly using "https://" always in the rendered translated messages even if the wikis on which it will be exposed is NOT viewed with HTTPS. This makes the licences inacessible for those users whose HTTPS is blocked in their browser or Internet access (for any reason). All original messages to translate (and used by default without change in English) ARE protocol relative; this template suggests the opposite
- It fixed the incorrect representation of translated commons as "deeds" (the human readable version)
- Nemo bis argues that "deed" are not in the message to translate, this is false, and translators are misguided when they look for available transated deeds.
- ONLY "deeds" are translated, not the legal texts of licences which are written in a single language (English for the international non country-specific version; or another language for specific countries).
- We need to explain the difference between deeds and licence and correctly indicate where the deeds are listed (this is NOT warrantied with the first link suggested which MAY NOT work if that translated deed does not exist or is removed): for that the list of translated deeds is available ONLY at the second URL which will render the deed in another existing language, but preferably the language set in user's browser.
I maintain that Nemo_bis did this wrong. And blocked it without discussion to a version which is obviously misguiding translators. Note that this is not just for Wikimedia wikis. The intent here is to translate a licence message that will be shown on many sites. It MUST reflect the original message. But Nemo_bis did it wrong or did not want to understand (and he abused the reverts, without any argument or attempt to discuss).
I ask the unblocking of this template. Anyway translators should ignore what is then displayed here in English by this template when they tranlate the actual licence templates. Verdy p (talk) 13:05, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
