Welcome to Betawiki!

Hi Robert Ullmann. Welcome to Betawiki. Before you can use Special:Translate, and Special:Magic, please request translator rights at Betawiki:Translators. Please create a user page on which you describe which language(s) you will be working on. If you are going to be an active user here, please also add your name to the languages you will be working on at Translating:Languages. For an overview of the languages that are being worked on here, you can have a look at Translating:Developer log. Other useful pages can be Support and Import requests.

Once you have started translating, please remember to often request a commit of your translation work at Translating:Tasks. This makes the number of changes easier to handle for the devs.

I wish you a productive and pleasant stay. Cheers! Spacebirdy 13:31, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! I was thinking of importing from the sw wikipedia, checking it a little, getting that committed so I can use it on sw.wikt, and then continuing from there. Reasonable process? Robert Ullmann 13:43, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
For asking for import please leave a message on Import requests, the import would have to be adapted afterwards, (e.g. Wikipedia->{{SITENAME}} etc.) so You would need to put some work in there afterwards, it should only be committed if adapted before. The reason for all changes should be done from here is, because they will not only affect sw.wikt. Of course the local changes like edittools or monobook are done locally on each project, thanks, best regards, --Spacebirdy 13:50, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay, but some of this process is still murky. For example, I set pref here to sw, and some of the tabs and such appear in Swahili, but on the sw.wikt itself I get only the default English. The database here shows 0/1708 messages translated. Wassup? ;-) Robert Ullmann 13:57, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
There is no language file for Swahili at the moment. I'll import Swahili from sw.wikipedia.org and let you know when done. If you are a community member there, please try and motivate more users (preferably coming to a team of 3) to come here and contribute translations. Please check *all* imported messages for Wikipedia specific messages, as we need a clean generic translation, so it can be used as the default Swahili version in *any* MediaWiki installation. Thank you for your efforts in advance! Cheers! Siebrand 14:02, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
P.s. if there is a language closer related to Swahili than English that you would like to use as a fallback language, please let me know which language(code) that would be.
Messages imported from sw.wikipedia.org. 151 messages to be checked and fixed if needed. Please let me know when that has been done, so I can add those to MediaWiki already. After that, please continue with the most often used messages. Siebrand 14:08, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh lovely; a fine little mess. As you say, need to fix "Wikipedia", and there are at least a few that don't use the parameters (page moved doesn't link $1 and $2 as it should, etc). Thanks. No useful fallback language; when we do Kinyarwanda French might be useful. Robert Ullmann 14:27, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
