Hi Caoimhin. Welcome to translatewiki.net! Please create a user page on which you describe which language(s) you will be working on. Before you can use Special:Translate, please request translator rights. You should also check the portal for your language, the link is in the sidebar. Other useful pages are linked in the translatewiki.net menu that comes with this message.
Your translations are transferred to the standard product every few days or every few weeks depending on the product. Please notice that it may take longer before you see your translation in the actual product. It can be just a few days before they appear on Wikipedia, but a few months can pass between each new release of FreeCol.
We wish you a productive and pleasant stay. Please leave any questions on Support. Cheers!

Fàilte
Fàilte an seo, a Chaoimhín! I just asked someone to give you translator rights. After that we can start working around here. You can allways contact me on my talk page here ( or in the Gaelic Wikipedia) or just leave a message on this page here. Dùrachdan --Sionnach 08:56, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Translator right
Hi Caoimhin,
I have granted you the translator right per request of User:Sionnach. Feel free to ask me everything if you need help :-) Raymond 09:43, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- Vielen Dank! Caoimhin 16:54, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Babel extension on translatewiki.net
Hoi, we are implementing the Babel extension on translatewiki.net. Would you be so kind and localise it for Gàidhlig ? Thanks, GerardM 15:35, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- I am new to all this, but you’ll see I have made a start. Is that what you mean? -- Caoimhin 02:32, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
-
- Yes, thank you very much :) GerardM 07:45, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Import
Before you start translating, the old messages from the Gaelic Wiki should be moved over here. I' ll take care about it tomorrow. Dùrachdan --Sionnach 23:23, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- OK. Ceart gu leòr. Tapadh leat. -- Caoimhin 13:08, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
-
- 'S e do bheatha. I just asked for the import. Faic an seo: Import requests. Ma bhios e deiseil, 's urrainn dhut toiseachadh leis na h-eadar-theangachaidhean. --Sionnach 15:52, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
- Taing. Agus taing airson ‘mheanaich’ a cheartachadh - droch-bhuaidh na Gaeilge orm, tha fhios!
- Tha mi dìreach air a bhith a’ dèanamh beagan sgioblachaidh air an eadar-theangachadh Ghàidhlig air AbairThusa (www.abairthusa.co.uk), le cead bho Chrìstean MacMhìcheil. -- Caoimhin 16:04, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Caoimhin, I finished the import of all possible messages from gd.wiki to translatewiki today. A lot of messages are marked as "FUZZY" now which means they have to be checked and fixed.
- As spoken with Sionnach a few days ago we need the rules for PLURAL. She told me that it is more complicated than in English. Could you please discuss it with her and send me rules? If you have more/other questions please ask :) Thanks. Raymond 21:50, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Raymond. That’s great! I’ll work away on it (although since I am fairly new to Wikipedia and have some important things to do at work over the next few days I might be slower than I would otherwise like).
Yes, plurals (and numbers in general) are more complicated in Gaelic than in English or German. The most important complication is that in Gaelic you use the singular after “two” - so essentially you say, “one tree, two tree, three trees, four trees,...”. Various other modern languages have a dual form ([[1]]) so I am sure that this is a problem which Translatewiki will have come across before. In fact I have just come across this from a Slovenian translator: [[2]]. I’ll need to read up on how PLURAL works.
I have been helping to translate a Ning social network (www.abairthusa.co.uk) into Gaelic recently, and it has quite a nice mechanism for dealing with complicated numbers - You can define a variable number of messages and they go into a PHP array, something like this:
- treeMessage[1]="I can see 1 tree";
- treeMessage[2]="I can see 2 tree";
- treeMessage['n']="I can see $1 trees";
-- Caoimhin 00:06, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- In MediaWiki we have to define a function LanguageGd::convertPlural(). Please see the Russian plural function or the Slovene plural function. You see, we can define whatever needed :) Raymond 09:06, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I see :-) And better still, it is written in PHP, which I am familiar with :-) I have other work to prepare for tomorrow, but I’ll have a look when I get a chance. -- Caoimhin 01:05, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Faic an duilleag seo cuideachd, chuir mi ceist cudthromach ann. --Sionnach 07:54, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Plural
Hi Caoimhin, tha e math d'fhaicinn an seo a-rithist:-) Dìreach airson ag innse dhut gun do rinn Raymond am prògram airson na "PLURAL forms"; faic [3]. Agus dh' atharraich mi fhìn na seann eadar-theangachaidean bho "sibh" gu "thu". Ma bhios ceistean eile agad, dìreach cuir fios thugam. Le dùrachdan --Sionnach 21:15, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
- Ceart gu leòr a Shionnaich. Duilich. Tha mi air a bhith trang - agus bidh gu ceann dhà no trì seachdainnean gus am bi na deuchainnean seachad. Ach bidh ùine agam an uair sin. Fìor mhath gun do dh’atharraich thu “sibh” gu “thu”!
- Tha mi gus teachdaireachd a sgoileadh ris na h-oileanaich an seo, a’ canail riutha, “Ath-chuairtich do sheann aistean ’s pròiseactan”, gus am brosnachadh stuth a chur gu Wikipedia. Deagh àm airson sin agus a’ bhliadhna acadaimeagach gu bhith seachad.
- Bha mi a’ sealltainn Wikimedia do Chrìstean MacMhicheil, oileanach sa cheithreamh bhliadhna, am fear a rinn ’s a dh’eadar-theangaich AbairThusa. ’S dòcha gum ùidh aige ann an cuideachadh ris an eadar-theangachadh nuair a bhios na deuchainnean seachad. Tha fìor deagh thuigse aige air gnòthaichean coimpiutaireachd.
Le deagh dhùrachd, Caoimhin 21:29, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

- Na gabh dragh, a Chaoimhin, tha an eadar-aghaidh Wiki Gàidhlig ceàrr airson bhliadhnaichean a-nise, mar sin chan eil cabhag oirnn an dràsta.
- Nam biodh uidh aig Crìstean MacMhicheil cuideachadh a thoirt dhuinn, bhiodh sin glè mhath. Tha dhith air Wikipedia Gàidhlig air duine le fiosrachadh coimpiutaireachd.
- Fìor-mhath gum bi thu deònach bruidhinn ris na h-oileanaich mu na seann aistean a sgrìobh iad!
- Le deagh dhùrachd --Sionnach 09:41, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Téarmaíocht
Dia dhuit a Chaoimhín,
Is maith an rud tusa a fheiceáil i saol na Vicíonna! Bhí mise páirteach in Gaelic-L fadó - Seán Ó Séaghdha (ups, sin deireadh le m'aitheantas dúrúnda anseo). Bím ag obair ar an Vicífhoclóir anois ó am go ham.
Chuir mé tús le plé nua chun an téarmaíocht a chaighdeánú anseo. Ba mhaith do thuairim a chloisteáil. Slán agat, ☸ Moilleadóir ☎ 07:38, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
