Project:Rally-2011-12

Hi, Siebrand. I participate to Christmas 2011 translatewiki.net Translation Rally and I passed validation, so I win the prize of 27.94 €, but I never participate to a similar event before, so I don't know how and when this prize can be transfered to my cut. I have a Paypal-Mastercard credit card. Can you explain it to me?

--Aushulz (talk) 22:59, 29 January 2012 (UTC)22:59, 29 January 2012

Please wait for an e-mail that I'll send you. I haven't had time to work on this yet.

Siebrand00:16, 30 January 2012

Ok, thank you. :)

Translation Reviewer Rights~

I am Chinese and I hope to review others' translation to prevent mechanical translation.:)

Hzy980512 (talk)13:18, 12 January 2012

Done Done Please be cautious reviewing translations. It's a high impact user right, and doing it too quickly would be a shame. Doing it well takes a lot of time, but the results are very high I have personally found. Typos are easily made, and usaually caught in this part of the process. Good luck!

Siebrand14:14, 12 January 2012

Thanks!I'll do my best.

Hzy980512 (talk)00:53, 13 January 2012

More Penalties?

Why you revoke my rights? what are this limits? Please give me the rights. Please note that I'm a native speaker of Sinhala and i need this rights to check those translations. Don't give me more penalties.

Pasindu ( Talk ) 11:57, 10 January 2012

I didn't do any bad quality translations for Sinhala, because it's my native language.

Pasindu ( Talk ) 12:00, 10 January 2012

This doesn't look like a "penalty", you can still translate as always. Those additional tools are only this, you can't "need" them and they're assigned with care.

Nemo (talk)16:32, 10 January 2012

I'm not punishing you, I'm protecting everyone else/our assets by taking away some privileges that you previously had. We're dealing with a trust issue here, and once you manage to restore that, I'm sure I'm more than prepared to provide you with or talk about any role you'd like to have here. Meanwhile, your new contributions are highly appreciated.

Siebrand12:23, 11 January 2012

Restore what? Could you please tell me what would i do next to get my rights back. Many thanks.

Pasindu ( Talk ) 04:37, 12 January 2012

It's not a matter of getting your rights back, that's what I explained above. I also explained what the circumstances could be in which you might be trusted with roles you have previously been trusted with, again.

admin rights

May i get the admin rights to give translator rights to the users.. and also to manage the spamming users... thankyou

shanmugam (talk)18:42, 7 January 2012

Please do not make the same request twice. I've replied at Nike's talk page.

Last edit: 12:04, 9 January 2012

its ok..if it possible you can give me the rights or else no problem.... why i requested for this means i will be online for more than 5 to 8 hours per day... and i saw that many requests are granted after some time...

shanmugam (talk)11:48, 9 January 2012

We usually reply to rights requests within 4 hours, which is very acceptable, I think. If someone comes to IRC to ask, it can be done even quicker.

Siebrand11:53, 9 January 2012

its ok .... i'm much interested in doing that work... so tat only i asked repeatedly ...ok no problem ... leave it ..thankyou for your reply...

shanmugam (talk)11:56, 9 January 2012

hi siebrand,
i think somehow my previous conversation with you has disturbed your work....i apologize for that...i'm sure that will not happen again.......
thankyou

Translation Rally

Dear Siebrand, I'm taking part to rally, and I've translated more of 500 messages but i'm disqualified. Can you explain me my fault? Peraphs the optional message of MediaWiki 1.19 don't consider in total count?

Thank you in advance

Joe Taras (talk)10:39, 29 December 2011

You shouldn't be, as far as I can tell. I'll check...

Siebrand10:44, 29 December 2011

Someone apparently removed your name - not me. I'll fix that...

Siebrand10:45, 29 December 2011

Hi Siebrand, thank you and happy new year.

Your input would be helpful…

here: meta:Talk:Terms_of_use#Legalistic_and_unhelpful

I think we lack the expertise to implement this useful suggestion.

Also, totally unrelated: when I created my account here at translatewiki just now, I immediately got a "new messages" notification. But when I clicked the link, I got a message that said "you have no new messages." I think this may be a bug/incompatibility between standard talk page messages and LiquidThreads? -Peteforsyth (talk) 18:18, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Peteforsyth (talk)18:18, 16 December 2011

Replied there; not quite clear what you need of me. LiquidThreads has unfortunately been abandoned by Wikimedia, it seems, and bug reports (almost 200 in bugzilla) are being written of as "being dealt with in a rewrite" for the past 18 months.

Ca OSM translator

Hi,

I want to know how can I contribute to catalan language of OSM website. By now, I can't edit entries, only view.

Thanks a lot, Xan.

Somenxavier (talk)18:44, 17 December 2011

See Special:FirstSteps.
Done Translator rights are granted, welcome.

Admin_rights

Thread:Support/Admin_rights#Admin_rights_10615: May I get admin rights (probation) for giving translator rights for new users?

Тест19:09, 3 May 2011

Done Done Please obey this list of guidelines (also see past requests at Project:Translator):

  • each request is acknowledged, granted or not.
    • Granted requires reply "Done Done" and a small welcome. I usually use plain "Welcome!".
  • requests are not granted if no e-mail confirmed and no user page created. Red user page link should be replied with a link to Special:FirstSteps
  • requests are not granted if the signature does not lead to user (talk) page.
  • user page with babel, but no e-mail confirmed: granted, and ask them to confirm their e-mail address (with reference to Special:FirstSteps.
  • fix up the user page if you can (de-duplicate multiple babel templates, and stuff).
  • grant requests with reason [[portal:LANGUAGECODE|LANGUAGECODE]]. See Special:Log/rights for examples.
  • do not give out offline translator rights before 100 contributions.
  • do not give out sysop or bureaucrat without talking to a staff member.
  • We've dealt with vandalous accounts/translator requests for ru/uk a while ago. Be positively suspicious about requests for those languages.
  • When in doubt, ask a staff member (talk page, IRC, e-mail, whatever), and delay granting rights.

Feel free to check up on recent contributions of recently created accounts without a request, or granted accounts without edits. Send them a friendly mail and a message on their talk page inviting them to start translating and offer help through support. If granted users have made a few edits, compliment them on their contributions; they are valuable, we appreciate them, etc. Be at least a bit original, don't "template" them. I *think* these personal touches helps to keep (more) translators motivated and contributing.

Clear? :)

Siebrand22:20, 3 May 2011

Thank. Clear.

Тест22:32, 3 May 2011

1 question. User create user page, but do not request translator rights on Project:Translator. May I give translator rights?

Тест22:14, 29 May 2011

Best not. We need a user to prove he understands what is asked of him. If you want to do anything, I see two things you can do:

  • write a little note on the talk page
  • send the user an e-mail.

In both cases, best refer to Special:FirstSteps.

Siebrand23:33, 29 May 2011

Please check Special:FirstSteps. Confirmation e-mail is before requesting translator rights or not?

Тест23:09, 6 June 2011

Confirming e-mail address is not required, but we do actively encourage it. Because it is not required, it can be done after requesting translator rights.

New portal Thl started by user Shivakhanal

Have you noticed that there is a new Portal:thl started by User:Shivakhanal? I don't know enough about how the overall system of incubators, Babel boxes, etc works to know whether starting a portal without requesting it first is a potential problem or not. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it.

Lloffiwr (talk)14:41, 16 November 2011

I don't think creating a portal is a problem in itself, but translation to that code needs to be enabled. However, there is a possible code issue here (a language with varieties, each having its proper code). I left the user a note on his/her talk page.

MediaWiki:Mwe-upwiz-more-options/nl

Dag Siebrand. Ik zag dat je mijn verandering hebt teruggedraaid. Mijn reden om het te veranderen is omdat de tekst "meer instellingen" gebruikers volkomen op het verkeerde been zetten. Zie o.a. discussie Prototype upload wizard.
