Project:News/Newsletter 2010-10
Hello, dear translatewiki.net user.
This is the http://translatewiki.net e-mail newsletter for October 2010. We use it to update you on our developments. Join our latest MediaWiki Translation Rally now! The project's success depends on your continued efforts.
Translation Rally: Contribute 500 MediaWiki translations and share in 1,000 Euro
In 2010 we are happy we can once more continue having a Translation Rally. As before, it is sponsored by Stichting Open Progress, with a grant from Vereniging Wikimedia Nederland's "International Projects" fund. The October 2010 MediaWiki Translation Rally starts in a few hours at 16 October 2010 00:00 UTC and will run until 23 October 2010 24:00 UTC. See the project page for details.
New skin, new features and new API modules
Finally after a long testing period we have switched the default skin from Modern to Vector. Some users have been using it already, but the small and annoying bugs have kept us from enabling it sooner. Together with the new Resource Loader feature in MediaWiki, this brings a fresh look to translatewiki and also offers speed optimizations. We also moved the "Next message", "Previous message" and "Back to the message list" links from the content area to the tab row.
The Translate extension that is used for all translation work done at translatewiki.net, now has two API modules. The first module allows querying basic information about message groups. The second module allows querying a list of messages for a group in a language. It supports more different filtering combinations that the regular user interface. You are encouraged to play with these modules and to produce cool new things with it. Let us know if you think we could allow easy access to other information, too. See the API documentation for help on usage.
New product support
We are now developing a support Mifos, which is FLOSS used by micro finance institutions to help them scale up their operations. Find out more at http://www.mifos.org/. A second message group for Mifos is being added as we are sending this newsletter, and we will be adding more messages once we get even more internationalisation issues fixed in Mifos.
There have been many updates and additions for MediaWiki extensions, and support for over 60 plugins for StatusNet was added.
Operational news
