Written Catalan is much closer to written Occitan than for instance Czech to Slovak or Upper Sorbian to Lower Sorbian. Until 1934 most Catalan scholars considered Catalan as a dialect of Occitan.

Right, but ideally we'd have some intelligibility study as the very accurate one we used for Czech and Slovak. Anyway, I've opened a separate discussion for this option: Thread:Portal talk:Ca/Joining forces with Occitan.
