Adding a new language, Ainu

Hello! Could the admins add the ainu language? I would like to translate in this language. The ISO 639-2 code is ain.

ah no it exists....

Ajeje Brazorf,

Actually no, not really. You can kind of publish pages that end in /ain, which you've recently done, but it's not properly configured.

I can configure it, but I have a few questions:

  • Do you actually know this language and plan to translate to it?
  • The translations you've submitted till now look like tests. Are they actual translations, or are they tests that can be deleted?
  • In which script do you plan to do it: Katakana or Latin?
  • What is the name of the language written in itself? アイヌ? アイヌ・イタㇰ? Something else?

I know the bases on ainu (months, years, some basical adjectives...). The translations aren't tests. I'll translate on the two scripts, katakana and latin. The language name is アイヌ・イタㇰ, because アイヌ means ainu people.

Is there anyone else who is going to translate beyond months and adjectives?

What is the purpose of the translation?

Amir E. Aharoni (talk)12:41, 26 July 2021

i'll translate some verbs too, basic vocabulary.

Ajeje Brazorf (talk)12:44, 26 July 2021

So I have to ask again: What is the purpose of the translation? If you plan to start a Wikipedia in it, you need native speakers or at least people who know it well as a second language. Knowing months and some basic adjectives and verbs is not enough. We usually don't add new languages when there is not even one person who knows it well.

Amir E. Aharoni (talk)09:53, 27 July 2021

ah ok....So you can delete those pages

Ajeje Brazorf (talk)12:01, 27 July 2021

Thanks for understanding.

I'll be delighted to add this language if someone who knows it well comes to translate :)

Or when I speak better ainu, at an acceptable level.
