Writing special characters in the new interface

I for one would be happy already if I could easily switch to single message editing. I.e. solving bugzilla:46955 would do for me.

I tried clicking on the keyboard symbol which appears when you edit, which goes to the ULS (Universal Language Selector). But that only has the International Phonetic Alphabet, which I don't know how to use and the non-Latin scripts on it.

It is the additional character set under the edit window (displayed by Purodha above) which I use all the time to type in letters with the 4 accents on them; â ä á and `. So I also would consider the problem solved if bug 46955 were actioned.
