"Collection" days in Europeana

"Collection" days in Europeana

Hi!

I've seen you've changed the translation "Collection days" from "Días de recolección" to "Días de colección", and I would like to reverse the change, but I wanted to discuss it first. Maybe I'm overlooking something and you can help me!

I know that all across Europeana, they use the word "collection", mostly to refer to a "group of things" (colección). When I first saw "Collection days", my reflex was also to translate it as "Días de colección". However, as I kept translating, I thought my choice was not quite right, so I investigated further about the "collection days".

These are events in which items are collected (as in here, for example). Hence my decision to name them "Días de recolección" in Spanish. This made more sense to me, also as I kept finding phrases referring to "harvesting" contributions, etc.

By "Días de colección", I would understand "days in which the collection (group of items) is celebrated", rather than "days in which items are collected". Let me know if you agree with this reasoning, or if you have another point of view.

Thank you!!

Ah, interesting! I'll be honest, I'm only a student who is continuing to learn Spanish and contribute to this site, obviously I need to study a bit about the cultures around the world tied with the beautiful language haha :) I actually didn't see any QQQ documentation to figure out the context or know about how such a thing existed, but that's very interesting! Your explanation makes sense, so feel free to undo my edit :)

You learn something new every day, you know?
