Sign Languages web extension and Kazakh Sign Language

Sign Languages web extension and Kazakh Sign Language

Lingua Libre SignIt for Firefox (:meta:SignIt. Works on Chrome/Chomium/Edge if installed manually). I has 660 French signed words as of now.

Hello Darzz,
May I ask you some help ? I'm a volunteer developer, I worked on a Wikimedia Sign Languages Firefox extension which aims to promote various Sign Languages among the general public. After using French Sign Language as a demonstrator, I met an academic from en:Nazarbayev University working on Russo-Kazakh Sign Language. I would like to be ready to onboard contributions and contributors from such sign language communities. Also, I identified Kazakh (kk) as a major Wikimedia language SignIt needs in order to push for academic collaborations and needed funding. Could you help to translate our 30 short phrases from English to kk-cyrl or another kk script ? It would remove a key obstacle to bind our sign language project and the Kazakh Sign language community. Yug (talk) 16:26, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

I don't know whether to add Kazakh Wiktionary ID or not, because it's very poor-developed.

Darzz hello, thank you for that push. Is the Russian or English wiktionary richer to explain Kazakh written words ? We got to pick the richest wiktionary which is best understood by the Kazakh general public. Then pick the relevant section's html id.

I think Russian will fit.

But there's a problem that Kazakh is an agglutinative language so the most of words are connected by additional morphemes. E.g. болмағандықтан (because it isn't/wasn't) is a single word, but the page it should refer to is болу (be). I think it'd be better if there was a note for some languages to select only the word roots which would link to the most relevant page on Wiktionary.

A search field is available.

Umh, I was aware of such cases as it affects my native language (French) as well. "J'avais" (I had) should redirect to "avoir" (to have), etc. We don't have resources for intelligent redirect. So for cases such as болмағандықтан (because it isn't/wasn't) → болу (be), the "click text" wont work on "болмағандықтан", the user will have to open the extension, and type "болу" into the "Search" field.
