New language requests
Hello, given that you already triage all language request, what do you think about assuming responsibility for them? I see about 15 open requests, over a year of backlog; sending patches like [1] is not hard in itself, what's hard is drawing a line on what to accept and what not (though there are other aspects like CLDR and core's Names.php) and you're already able to do that. Siebrand has a lot on his plate, reviewing pre-triaged patches is easier for him and I expect Nike would also be happy to approve such patches.
I am hoping to attend Wikimania in London this year. Would you or another developer be able to provide some training on how to do these things? As it stands a lot of the above is just jargon to me, and as far as drawing a line is concerned, I do not know on what criteria to base a decision.
Nike and others will be at Wikimania, however that's so far. :) IMHO you would be able to make such decisions, it's "just" about finding out whether a language is (alive and) sustainable as a locale. We just don't want to have lots of empty language codes or dead languages.
I'm sorry for the jargon... But you are already able to navigate the codebase a bit and adding a language is just two lines of configuration. If there is one language in the queue that you're quite sure we should add, you could start trying with that and see how it goes.
OK - I'll give it a go when I have enough free time and energy to learn something new.
Thanks! Note, you can also use mw:Gerrit patch uploader.
