"Save settings" can get really long in some languages when translated literally e.g. "Desa la configuració" (Catalan). The button looks ugly and the long string is actually pointless.

Being this a button in a mobile interface, would you mind labeling simply with "Save"? (Catalan: "Desa")

String length restrictions are a Bad Thing [tm] in Globalized interfaces. Designers should come up with a solution in case a string is long. "Save settings" vs. "Save" is IMO a no-brainer if there's only one save button in the current context.

Is editing the English string here in translatewiki.net enough?

No. You have to commit a patch in git.

Or make a suggestion for change here, so that someone can create a patch for you when there is (some form of) consensus about that proposed change.

Sorry for the lack of my activity on this ticket - I'm just not sure how to fix it. String length restrictions unfortunately /are/ a thing on mobile especially when it comes to buttons. In the example of save settings ideally the string should be one word. As Siebrand points out 'save' should probably be sufficient in the context as it only appears on the settings page. Do we need to update the qqq code to reflect this?

1. You need to indicate there is limited space
2. You MUST allocate more space in the design for the translation than in the English text

For short strings (5-7 letters), you should allocate 150-170% of the source width in the design.
