Plural on iHRIS

Dear Lloffiwr, Sorry for the delayed response, it has been quite hectic here.

Yes, iHRIS does support plural forms in .html source documents with each message needing to be tagged as such. Unfortunately, at the moment, no message have been thus tagged.

For some techinical details... the PHP class that handles plural forms can be found here:

  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~intrahealth+informatics/i2ce/4.1-dev/view/head:/modules/TemplateData/modules/Tags/I2CE_PluralForms.php

which is an extraction of the rules found here:

 http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/l10n/pluralforms#plural_forms

If someone is interested in properly tagging the plural form messages, I would be happy to write detailed instructions.

Cheers. -carl

I imagine that tagging messages would be a job that only staff members are able to do at translatewiki.net. The system for Mediawiki is that translators request that a message is enabled for plural on support and staff members then assess and carry out the request. It sounds to me as if a similar system is needed for iHRIS. Perhaps a staff member could comment on this thread?

In the meantime I imagine that detailed instructions on how to tag the messages can be put on your project page or on a sub-page of the project page. The instructions are then accessible to all staff.

As far as translators are concerned, they will probably follow the pattern of the English plural written in the tagged messages. The notes on plural for projects using Gettext state that:

"Gettext plurals in translation work mostly the same as MediaWiki plurals. Those are identified by {{PLURAL:GETTEXT|...}}| syntax. The number might not be available for use in the message text. All forms must always be provided."

Is that all correct for iHRIS? If not please explain how localisation of plural on iHRIS will work for translators.
