Welcome to Betawiki!

Hi Jacob.jose. Welcome to Betawiki! Please create a user page on which you describe which language(s) you will be working on. If you are going to be an active user here, please also add your name to the languages you will be working on. Before you can use Special:Translate, and Special:Magic, please request translator rights. If you have a wiki where a lot of translations have already been made, you can make an import request. Other useful pages are linked in the translatewiki.net menu that comes with this message.

Once you have started translating, your work will be committed to the standard product every few days. If you want to explicitely request your work to be added, please make a request for commit.

I wish you a productive and pleasant stay. Cheers! Spacebirdy 13:21, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Inflection

Hello, I noticed you talked about inflection. Should we implement {{GRAMMAR:}} functionality for inflection? – Nike 17:52, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

It will be helpful to support Grammar. However, I wonder how you can support individual language grammars? for eg: consider three mlwiki sitenames:

  • wikipedia = വിക്കിപീഡിയ
  • wiktionary = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടു
  • wikiquote = വിക്കി ചൊല്ലുകള്‍

Inflection changes are:

  • of wikipedia = വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ
  • of wiktionary = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടുവിന്റെ
  • of wikiquote = വിക്കി ചൊല്ലുകളുടെ - not that it is not വിക്കി ചൊല്ലുകള്‍ + ടെ, but it is വിക്കി ചൊല്ലുക + ള്‍ changed to ളു + ടെ added.

I'd keep this discussion in one place only, if it suits you? Some languages have crude rules for inflection, but most languages just use look up tables for predefined forms of {{SITENAME}} in some set of different inflections. The plus side is that one can keep messages generic, and still have inflection. Does this sound useful? – Nike 18:23, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Guess it should be useful. However, please note that I don't yet have a comprehensive idea of what you have in mind. As far as ml is concerned, having inflection support for of {{SITENAME}} and in {{SITENAME}} are required for sure.
  • in wikipedia = വിക്കിപീഡിയയില്‍
  • in wiktionary = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടുവില്‍
  • in wikiquote = വിക്കി ചൊല്ലുകളില്‍ - not that it is not വിക്കി ചൊല്ലുകള്‍ + ല്‍, but it is വിക്കി ചൊല്ലുക + ള്‍ changed to ളി + ല്‍ added.
--Jacob.jose 18:39, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes you can have multiple cases. For example {{GRAMMAR:in|വിക്കിപീഡിയ}} to produce വിക്കിപീഡിയയില്‍ and {{GRAMMAR:of|വിക്കിപീഡിയ}} to produce വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ. You'd need to identify the needed cases, name them, and then provide the forms for these cases for Wikimedia projects. – Nike 18:50, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, that would be extremely helpful, provided there is sufficient flexibility in enhancing it with new kinds of inflections, as these inflections are identified ! --Jacob.jose 18:53, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
It is possible, but latency for Wikimedia settings to be applied is slow, so it would be a good thing if everything is decided by then. – Nike 07:31, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

This is the list that I can think of for now:

  • in {{SITENAME}}
    eg: in wikipedia = വിക്കിപീഡിയയില്‍; in wiktionary = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടുവില്‍
  • of {{SITENAME}}
    eg: of wikipedia = വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ; of wiktionary = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടുവിന്റെ
  • to {{SITENAME}}
    eg: to wikipedia = വിക്കിപീഡിയയോട്; to wiktionary = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടുവിനോട്
  • for {{SITENAME}}
    eg: for wikipedia = വിക്കിപീഡിയയ്ക്ക്; for wiktionary = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടുവിന്
  • with {{SITENAME}}
    eg: with wikipedia = വിക്കിപീഡിയയും; with wiktionary = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടുവും
  • by {{SITENAME}}
    eg: by wikipedia = വിക്കിപീഡിയയാല്‍; by wiktionary = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടുവാല്‍
  • {{SITENAME}} and
    eg: wikipedia and = വിക്കിപീഡിയയും; wiktionary and = വിക്കിനിഘണ്ടുവും

Do you know grammatical names for these forms that should be used? – Nike 20:41, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
Nick, sorry for late reply. I will reply in detail in two weeks. I am off to somewhere. --Jacob.jose 18:49, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

The Inuka Team: We need your help.

Hello Jacob.jose,

Please to meet you. My name is Uzoma; I am a Community Relations Specialist supporting the WMF Inuka Team. I am contacting you because we, the Inuka team, would want you to help us translate the Wikipedia KaiOS app interface.

We believe that translating this page is very important because there is a high usage of the Wikipedia KaiOS app in India. The app will be of good use to more people if we have the Malayalam language interface fully translated. Below is the link to the page:

https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Special:MessageGroupStats?group=wikimedia-mobile-wikipedia-kaios-strings&suppressempty=1&language=de&x=D

We will really appreciate your help with translating the page above.

Thank you for your help!
