I haven't been able to find any documentation here regarding T-V distinction when translating from English to Romanian. Which forms should be used? For example, should “You could do this” be translated to „Ați putea să faceți asta” (second person, plural — formal, polite, often used when addressing strangers), or to „Ai putea să faci asta” (second person, singular — informal, often used when addressing acquaintances, or strangers evidently younger than/as old as the speaker)?
If there is no convention set yet, I'd lean toward using the second, informal, and more direct way of addressing the reader for simplicity and “friendliness”.
As a side note, should one use English or Romanian when writing messages here? I've chosen English in this conversation for accessibility, assuming there won't be many native speakers reading this discussion page in the near future.
Hi. Just letting you know that an user who apparently don't speak Romanian has been very prolific in past week in translating messages to Romanian. I came here to fix an incorrectly translated message seen on a WMF wiki, and then I saw all his activity. Probably these are automated translation, a number of them are of poor quality. I've reviewed and corrected several messages translated by him, but unfortunately currently I don't have enough free time to spend on Translatewiki reviewing all their changes. I don't really know what are the local procedures in such cases on TW, but I leave this message here, FTR.
I have drafted a list of Mediawiki plural rules for all languages. I would be grateful if a translator could check that the rules for Romanian are correctly recorded in the list. If I have made a mistake please go ahead and correct it.
It could also be useful to any future new translators for Romanian to be able to read notes on using plural, especially Mediawiki plural, on your portal or a sub-page of the portal.
Hi sir! The romanian community don't have any admin or bureaucrat, but other have, I think that the wiki need and romanian admin or crat. And please, give me translator right because i hate CHAPTCHA...
I suggest you request translator rights first, then translate a whole lot, and if you think you have a reason for more access here, then request that, accompanied by a reason why.
