Request the addition of Jinnish language

I misunderstood the meaning of variants for a language. I thought I should request the language with variants since we use Latin alphabets, as well as both traditional and simplified Chinese characters. But variants, if I understand correctly now, would make separate options in language menu, and mean different scripting systems. Since we are not creating three variants of scripting for Jinnish, but one script using both Latin alphabets and Chinese characters, here I have changed the request as having no variants. But the scripts need to have both Hani and Latn.

Please let me know if I still misunderstand the variants or scripts in Wikis.

You can imho request variants, even if you do not translate for but one of them. It is easier to use variants late, if you already have them, and adding variant support later requires additional work.

Thank you for your comments! After some discussion with my collaborators, I've edited my request to allow variants, and made a note on it.

Well, then how about fallback? I guess you may need zh-hans or zh-hant (or both are ok?) as fallback.

Thank you for your question! We've decided to set zh-hant as the fallback language.

Pleiades486: cjy-hant will fallback to zh-hant and cjy-hans will fallback to zh-hans, would it required to fallback cjy to cjy-hant or cjy-hans? what's the actuall variant the wiki is using?

It would be OK to fallback cjy-hant to zh-hant and cjy-hans to zh-hans. We would use cjy-hant as the default variant, I don't quite understand your question of "fallback cjy to cjy-hant or cjy-hans" though.

Pleiades486: Oh, I didn't notice your change, so will set cjy-hant as fallback for cjy.

Mjbmr (talk)21:10, 15 June 2015

Thanks! But would it be zh-hant or cjy-hant as the fallback language for cjy? When we talk about fallback, it seems to me that we refer to another language, instead of a variant in the same language. I'm a little bit confused.

It always will fall this way: cjy -> cjy-hant -> zh-hant, so when a translation doesn't exits will use translation from the fallback language (when it's ready to be added to mediawiki).
